Opens a spot on the 40 man.... hmmmmm Great point. I don't see how this benefits the Sox though? Unless there's a bid trade coming for a reliever.

I like it. Kinsler has really turned it around lately.

I'll take it. Would have wanted Dozier because i think he has more pop in his bat.

They're now going over $237M this year barring something crazy/weird
So at this point, anyone on the market is now available, and the Sox can take the entire salary to diminish what they have to move in prospects

That seems like a lot for a rental type. Ohh well. That is a lot to you? Neither of these guys were ever profiled as high leverage relievers. All it takes to find relief pitching who can fill the middle relief role is money, and not a lot of money. This is a no brainer. Ty Buttrey has the ceiling of a high leverage reliever. He has a fastball that reaches the high 90's.

Two potential middle relievers isn't a high price. Those should be the easy players to find off the scrap heap. Look at Boyer last year or Brasier this year.

Replace the worst player on the team with a good player, for the 19th and 26th ranked prospects in a bad system? Yeah, I’ll allow it.

Boston will also receive some money in the deal, per Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston (via Twitter). Kinsler is earning $11MM this year before reaching free agency at season’s end.

Words that also should be in play, "this year" and "still loaded with upper minors relievers".

Ian Kinsler's offensive numbers this year, even with the hot streak, and his numbers last year offensively aren't impressive. He really hasn't had a good season with the bat since 2016.
Where he'll improve the team is on defense, so hopefully that makes this worth it. The Sox did have to get a better 2b and apparently the Sox weren't impressed enough with Brandon Phillips to give him a shot.
I don't love losing Buttrey. I was hoping he'd be involved in a deal for a reliever. I don't think Jerez is any big loss.

Just wasn't a great deal value wise. Then again, Dombrowski doesn't value the value deals. He targets a guy and then goes after him hard.

Sorry, not buying it and clearly neither was the Sox front office. He was quickly passed by Lakins and would have been quickly passed by Feltman.

DDo just quoted something like Kinsler provides what we anticipated from Pedroia, but we don't kow if he'll be back, and, if he is, it'll be late, and the deadline is July 31...it makes us better...

I don't disagree that Feltman and Lakins are about to pass him, but that still doesn't mean Buttrey can't figure it out soon. Again, I am happy with Kinsler. Big upgrade at least defensively.
