Was the draft of 2013 a bust? Nobody seems to be pushing for a Major League job.
Can Teddy Stankiewicz or Trey Ball make a push to join the Boston Pitching staff?
Corlos Asuaje (11th round #323 overall) was part of the package for Craig Kimbrel & has been up & down for SD, so that's something.

Yeah here’s a legitimate chance that no one from that draft ever makes it to a Red Sox roster.

It is amazing to look at — kind of looks like all the ways a draft can go wrong: high risk guy like Ball; character issues with Denney, etc.
Is Witte the best guy standing?
Lazy question: was that a bad draft? Did other teams have an unusual amount of mid-late round flops?

Yeah here’s a legitimate chance that no one from that draft ever makes it to a Red Sox roster. Kyle Martin played a couple games. May be peak value.

Yeah Asuaje and Dubon are probably the only ones that actually stick in the majors, and both with other teams. Littrell, Longhi, and Martin may do some up and down stuff, and that's about it. Everyone else seems to have fizzled out.

Just curious was this an overall bad draft for the MLB? Not for nothing Ball never really panned out. Starting pitching is so hard to get right. I bet you statistically speaking it must be the hardest position to fill .

Bad draft for the Sox and for MLB (there have been several redrafts published, if someone wants to find them - things get bad quickly). We've mentioned on the pod, but this is an underrated reason why the system is down, in addition to the more widely discussed trades and graduations. 2012 wasn't great either.

Just an all-around atrocious draft, probably the worst of the 21st century at least: www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/reviewing-the-2013-mlb-draft-five-years-later-bryant-judge-headline-a-draft-class-that-had-a-bust-at-no-1/ A few of the HS guys seem to have built some value back up so maybe it will come back a little (Kolby Allard, maybe?), but... ugh. The Red Sox mistake wasn't drafting Trey Ball. It was drafting Denney in the 3rd round despite what seem to be big, bright, waving red flags, and then having nearly $1 million left over when the draft was done - so they could've nabbed like a $1.8M bonus guy there in the third round without sacrificing any other player they drafted. Though even then, it's hard to target who they might have given that money to. Eric Lauer? Ryan Boldt? Jordan Sheffield? Or if there wasn't a spcific guy they liked for that kind of cash they could've spread that money around to like eight or nine 200K players after the 11th round and gotten some system depth. Or given 900K more to one spot and then 900K to literally anyone who wasn't Jon Denney. I was technically draft eligible in 2013 and I promise I'd have been much less of a waste of that money.

Everyone else seems to have fizzled out. Oh, and neither of them was in the top ten rounds. Of the top ten rounds, only Littrell, Allday, and Martin might do some up and down stuff, and that's it. Ball and Stankiewicz, I'm afraid, won't make it. So a maximum of 3 players from the top ten make it to the majors to go up and down. In 2011, 6 of 12 signed picks in the top 10 rounds are sustainable in the majors 1 went up and down, and 2 are knocking on the door after converting to pitchers. In 2012, 7 in the top 10 rounds have MLB experience, and an eighth is close.

I was hoping the Red Sox would take Austin Meadows in the first round. We should see a lot of him now that he is with Tampa Bay.

Can Teddy Stankiewicz or Trey Ball make a push to join the Boston Pitching staff? Dont look good for Teddy and it is really hard to imagine Ball in the majors, in fact I would think they might cut bait in the not too distant future.
