Lot of changes in the plan for Lowell today, but this looks final.

Bobby Bombs is at it again. Hits his 5th home run since coming to Portland: 31 on the year.

Your alumni association will be in touch regarding your lack of knowledge about non-red sox Brown baseball players succeeding in the minor leagues. (Chris Hatfield to the Brown courtesy phone . . . )

I also like seeing the Ivy league guys make it Chris. Was a time, especially FB when it was considered almost normal for them to go professional but it's so rare now.

Swihart caught 6 innings in game 1. I'm guessing he will be in Philly Tuesday.

While both DSL teams are off today, the Red Sox 1 team is out of the playoff hunt and the Red Sox 2 elimination number is 1. Antoni Flores and Miguel Suero are already stateside, but more players could come over to help the GCL playoff chase.

Moving guys up from the DSL involves things like getting work visas, etc., so it's not as simple as saying "let's bring some guys up." I'd be very surprised if more than a player or two comes up. If they're bringing someone up now, he's someone they'd have invited to Instructs anyway.

I do think there will be a little bit of movement, and some spots could open up (like if Elih Marrero and others move up to Lowell for the stretch run). But who knows, I always love seeing how players respond to coming from the DSL to the GCL.

For those who are enthused about the start Dahlberg is having in AA,, I have four words. Lars Anderson Luis Esposito Anderson stunk his first go through AA and exposito was merely ok (pretty good for a catcher) Dalbec has more than half the home runs Lars had in about 1/20th of the at bats. I’d imagine if the K rate gets any higher that’s problems but it’s pretty exciting to see him take to AA pitching quickly. We’ll see what he looks like when the league gets to know him

How would he have done that year at age 23 in A-ball?

Well devers is younger than Dalbec right now so I’m not sure that’s very apt either
And while Dalbec strikes out a bunch I feel like he’s got a better understanding of the zone than WMB ever had. At the very least he’s far less aggressive. Dalbec has already walked 3x more as a 23 yr old and 2x as much in A+ ball
He’s an interesting prospect. Obviously he’s not perfect and he’s far from a sure thing but AA is starting to show that maybe his destruction of A ball pitching wasn’t a complete and total fluke

Honest question: Has anyone seen a study on the ebb and flow of the competitive environment at each level as the year goes on? Presumably many of the top AA talents have been promoted to AAA as the year went on, so is AA performance now less representative of a full year AA skill level? Or does development of those remaining in the league (and the influx of A+ talent like Dalbec) counteract that?
In the majors we certainly see a different game in September as more teams drop out and everyone goes deeper into the 40 man roster. Plenty of September breakouts have rightfully included a "yeah but..."
