SoxProspects.com launched 15 years ago today. The top #RedSox prospects included Jorge De La Rosa, "John" Lester (whoops), Kevin Youkilis, & Hanley Ramirez. Pumped to still be going strong for 15 years! Big thanks to everyone who helped along the way! I actually ran the site off of the domain name mike-andrews.net/soxprospects for about a year or so before the official launch of soxprospects.com. Freddy Sanchez was the top prospect until he got traded in July 2003.

The first forum post was by me on 9/24/2003: Nobody responded until November 28, when a member named Ultimatefan28 asked about Juan Cedeno.

I'd be curious to hear stories about how people found the site for the first time. Especially if it was way back in the 2003-2005 range.

Thank you a million times for this wonderful site. Prob my favorite site on the web. My best friend who is a yankee fan kept telling me about Lars Anderson and told me to check out soxprospects.com. Lars Anderson def didn’t live up to the hype but soxprospects exceeded every expectation I had by a mile.

I remember creating the entire Red Sox minor league roster in an old PS2 baseball game in the early 2000's and that's how I found SoxProspects.com. Done it almost every since too lol. Now the site is an irreplaceable resource for my business as I have to scout for the best players to buy game used gear from and who to set up signings with. Happy to support the Podcast, and look forward to hopefully being more involved in the future! Thanks for everything guys!

Known about the site for probably 10+ years, and really started visiting all the time in 2012 during the sad Bobby V year. The content and discussions about prospects was a much needed distraction from those down years for the MLB team!
Cheers Mike and co. and thanks for all you do!

Found the site sometime during the 2004 season after reading a Gammons article in the Globe about Charlie Zink. I was intrigued and needed to learn more, and this site was one of the first results on google. Always loved trying to follow the sox minor leagues, but before soxprospects the extent of the information I could find was the weekly stat tables in the back of the globe sports section...this is much better. Been (mostly) lurking every since.

My first SP memory was trying to figure out who would be better, Michael Bowden or Clay Buchholz.
I went with Bowden, oops

I love this site - it is essential therapy for getting through our (mostly) wonderful seasons. We are spoiled - both by the excellence of the Red Sox, and the excellence of this site. I found it by googling "Boston Red Sox prospects" looking for info on all of the minor leaguers.

I learned when tweeting about it recently that a lot of people found the site that way. Jeremy West was a BALLER in my system by the way. --- IRL, I remember having played against Kyle Jackson. Pretty sure the at-bat lasted three pitches. I'll let you guess the outcome.

MVP Baseball 2004 got me hooked on the nuances of roster optimization and minor league depth - that was the year I found the site. MVP 2005 was the better game though. That soundtrack is permanently burned into my brain. I... maybe still play it occasionally on PS2.

I think Theo Epstein really got me interested in the site back in 2004 or 2005. The whole Pedrioa draft got me hooked. I remember Theo just gushing over the Pedrioa pic and I just got fascinated and wanted to find out why. That's when I came here and kept coming back. He made the understanding of building strong farm systems and building a higher payroll was more essential than to just have a high payroll and 3 or 4 star players like back in the 1990's.
I didn't know about the forum until like about 5 or 6 years ago. Lurked for 2 or 3 years and then posted heavily from that point on lol.
Edit- The MVP franchise was the best of all time in baseball video games. The pitch recognition system was awesome. MLB the Show is unique and cool, but it doesn't come close imo. In fact, I can't hit in the Show because it doesn't have a pitch recognition system. I only pitch in that game, it's way simpler.

I remember discovering the site in October 2009. I had never really paid attention to prospects before. The Angels had just swept the Red Sox in the ALDS. Everybody remember that game? The Angels trailed 6-4 heading into the 9th. Papelbon retired the first two batters, then the Angels enjoyed a furious two-out rally to win 7-6 and complete the sweep. I remember being stunned and nowhere near ready for the season to end. That’s when I started looking ahead to next season. I googled “top Red Sox prospects” and discovered the site. I remember feeling excited about the team’s most recent draft pick, Reymond Fuentes. I’ve been hooked on the site ever since.
I don’t post every day, but not a day goes by where I don’t check the site at least once and view the commentary. Thank you for everything. I know of no other prospect site quite like this one for any other MLB team.

While I virtually never post, I found the site sometime around 2006 or so - can't recall how.... Perhaps via Peter Gammons, or Sons of Sam Horn.... I recall when Pete Hissey was drafted by the sox, I think I posted when it was reported he'd signed (perhaps my last post prior to this one) - he was semi-local (other side of suburban Philadelphia), and a kid I'd heard nothing about prior to the draft - alas, he never panned out, but for years now this site has been one of the first 3 or so sites I visit each am - if I can find the game day threads painful to read (part of my morning), I appreciate, mostly, the passion...... Thanks to all!

I went to the 2006 Futures at Fenway (which I believe was the first year they had one), and this massive righty with a extreme sidearm delivery named Justin Masterson, whose name I hadn't even heard at that point, was making a bunch of Hudson Valley Renegades look absolutely hapless. I think he struck out something like five of the six batters he faced. I googled for information and it brought me here.

I found the site over a decade ago when I was a lurker on SoSH. Someone mentioned "Over at Soxprospects" in a post and I switched my preferred Red Sox site almost immediately. Proud to support the podcast, and can't thank you all enough for the amazing work.

I don't want to get corny, but you guys helped through the darkest days in my life. That's how important this forum is to me. Sometimes we all get testy because we're all crazy homers and like such we have our peculiarities, but I wouldn't change a thing. I love this community and it's just so fun to share the Red Sox (and my beloved Celtics) seasons with you all.

They changed since then, but wow, that’s a tough place for a noob to get a single reply. I started coming here when I kept hearing about Xander coming up through the system. Before that I wasn’t into prospects much because they didn’t seem to stick around with a few exceptions.

When I grew up by reading sports newspaper from long time ago before the computer ever exists and I asked my Dad what is prospect when the Red Sox organization traded their MLB player(s) for other team prospect name(s). My Dad knew about Pawtucket as Triple AAA team since he grew up in this city! I knew nothing about minor leagues system since it was lack of information from the Boston sports newspapers before 1990. The term "prospects" is all I keep hearing from until I got my own computer. Jeff Bagwell is most famous prospect player to give away for Larry Anderson. I'm still pissing off. I decided to type the term "Red Sox prospects" as search from computer for curious and found this Soxprospects.com by scrolling down the lists and opened it. Thanks, Mike for create this wonderful site. I see the whole minor league teams under the Red Sox and their prospect players. It helps as any Red Sox fan for news.

Here's a nice Top Ten from April 7, 2006. This group got Boston an organizational ranking of 8 (from Baseball America). I remember being pleased it was up from 21 but still thinking that might be a little low.

Thats an insane top 10 no matter how you slice it. 7 out of 10 guys with careers w/ 10.0 WAR or more (4 w/ 20.0+)....and 2 of the 3 without 10.0 WAR (Delcarmen & Moss) still made positive contributions to the game.

At some point, BA reviewed their rankings and came to the conclusion that that group was actually number one. So if you ever feel that the Sox prospects are better than where they rank, you can take heart knowing sometimes you are correct.

Although I had enjoyed mL ball from Pawtucket to Florida to California, this site has enabled me and so many others like me to grow in understanding of and respect for the game. Thank you ladies and gentlemen.
