Anyone here play? They have a new mode called Perfect Team that was just added to OOTP 19. It's a card collecting game kind of like MLB The Show, but it's not arcade. It's all simulation and strategy. I highly recommend it. I can talk a lot more about it if anyone is interested. I believe it will be free next year, but not 100% sure. www.ootpdevelopments.com/perfect-team/

Ooooh. The last version I have is 16. Rick Porcello was very good for me both times I played through fake versions of 2015. That Perfect Team thing looks like it could be really fun. I like how the first screen shows cards of Rogers Hornsby and Lucas Giolito. I'm generally of the mind that modern pitchers would embarrass old-time hitters, but I think Hornsby could hit Giolito.

I played PC version in like 2009. When I did a real life team I picked 2005 Cubs and overhauled the team so it would be a powerhouse based on knowing the future (things like picking up Halladay off the scrap heap) but got fired at the end of the first year. From then on I only played fictional leagues but loved the game. Picked it up again in 2012 and the app version in 2017 but never felt brave enough to delve back into real life.

It's actually quite interesting what happens because as the best teams get promoted (each week is an entire season), the competition gets better and better and players don't perform like they do IRL because the competition is 10 times better than it is in modern MLB. Think about 1999 Pedro facing a team filled with Babe Ruth, Barry Bonds, Honus Wagner, Wade Boggs, Mookie Betts, etc. Statistics vary greatly. Also, I just confirmed that OOTP Go will be released in the spring and will include PT which is free to play. But also keep in mind that it's pay to win. It can still be very enjoyable without spending money, but you will get destroyed by people who are willing to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars. There is a promotion/relegation system to separate the quality of teams, but it still happens at times. Next year there will be tournaments that can have different sets of rules that may prevent "whales" from dominating. Oh and by the way - 1999 Pedro is by far the best pitcher in the game, as it should be. But a 2018 Chris Sale will put up a 5 ERA most of the time at the highest level.

OOTP 21 is out today and the timing seems good. I preordered, so it should (damn well be) ready to download after the children are asleep. I hadn't bought it for a couple years but there's a baseball itch that needs scratching.

It's a little weird though. Darwinzon started game 3 (bullpenning I guess?) and Mata got the start in Game 5, with Martin Perez pitching out of the bullpen. Rodriguez, and Eovaldi have been the only rotation mainstays. Weber was so bad they DFA'ed him (they've DFA'ed Pillar as well for some reason - he wasn't even playing poorly). Darwzinon, Mata, McHugh, Houck, and even Taylor have gotten starts. The team was actually doing ok at 8-7, then had a 10-game losing skid that ERod broke today. Also the transaction page is strange. www.baseball-reference.com/sim/teams/BOS/2020-transactions.shtmlThey released a bunch of minor leaguers early in the season including guys like Cellucci and Shugart. April 8 in particular was a bloodbath, with 21 guys cut and replaced by free agents.
