Saw that he may have got injured. Any update? This kid was probably my favorite 5 grand senior sign that I can really remember the Sox doing. Who's our scout out here, Woodward. Jim Woodward. He had to have been bird dogging some kid out in the Empire, the Inland Empire, when someone told him to check out a kid at one of them Clairmont Pomona schools. No one scouts that. He wouldn't have gone out there to scout that. You graduate Cum Laude from Harvey Mudd in Nuero Science? He makes more than that in a shift at John Hopkins in a couple years. Probably love baseball? Raked and OPS over 900 in Greenville last year. Guarantee he plays in the major leagues. Guarantee it.

James Kang, former Pomona-Pitzer Sagehen, former Red Sox minor leaguer, and current Red Sox international scouting assistant, might dispute that "No one scouts that."

Apparently he announced his retirement - today.
What a way to go out - with a 2 HR game. He's been an amazing organizational player. He defined what it means to be an org player and why every organization needs them.
As Hatfield mentioned in a tweet, if he doesn't pursue med school or some other lofty pursuit, I'd be shocked if the Sox don't have a position with his name on it.
Thanks for your efforts, Tanner!

Really good at getting drilled by pitches too

Graduated from Pomona College, so he'll have plenty of opportunities in the real world. Best of luck, kid!

Have yourself a day to go out on. Well done Tanner. Wishing him nothing but the best moving forward.

I have to wonder with all the Covid replacements if Tanner would have been given a shot at the bigs, like Lopez had. Something we will likely never know.

Eh, I don't think he'd have sniffed it. I think there were at least 5 guys ahead of him on the depth chart (Downs, CDLG, Rivera, Fitzgerald, Williams).
He's a smart kid and saw the writing on the wall, I think. He wasn't really playing a ton when Portland wasn't stretched thin by the Olympic departures. Wanted his last hurrah and got it. Good for him - that's a hell of a story.
