I'd like to hear from everybody; as of today, 4/24/19, you're in charge. What do you do?
1) I send JBJ to AAA. If he refuses the assignment, I bench him & look for a trade.
2) I send Brewer & Lakins to AAA, waive Thornburg & keep Hernandez & Velazquez in the pen.
3) I make Chavis my everyday LF & live with the learning curve. I move Betts to CF & Benintendi to RF.
4) I add Shawaryn to the 40 man roster & call him up to be the #5 starter until Johnson is back
5) I make Lin my everyday 2B until Pedroia is back
6) I re call Travis for the bench until Nunez is back
7) If JBJ has accepted his AAA assignment I add Chatham to 40 man & call him up for the bench until Holt is back.
8) I do not bring back Pedroia until he is playing everyday and he has used up his total allotment of rehab playing days
Starters (5); Sale, Price, Porcello, Rodriguez & Shawaryn
Pen (7) Barnes, Brasier, Workman, Walden, Hembree, Velázquez & Hernandez
My line up (9); Betts, Benintendi, Bogaerts, Martinez, Moreland, Chavis, Devers, Vazquez, Lin
Bench (4) Leon & Pearce with Travis & Chatham until Holt & Nunez return. Hopefully JBJ accepts his AAA assignment & forces his way back & a decision has to be made between him and ?

Immediately activate Eovaldi and make him the closer, surgery be damned.

Some quick thoughts....I am going to look at the ML roster and the Pawtucket and make some decisions
Pitching - deal for Keuchel. Hope like hell that Price, Sale, ERod and Porcello are getting things figured out.
Deal for Kimbrel. Get Hembree and Thornburg off of the team - Lakins back to Pawtucket, Darwinzon back to Portland, Brewer only in safe situations until we have a better idea if he can do any sort of job. Clearly I am not sure about Eovaldi going forward and gave up on Hembree and Thornburg a long time ago.
So - staff becomes Price, Sale, ERod, Porcello, Keuchel
Pen becomes Kimbrel, Barnes, Brasier, Workman, Velazquez, Brewer, Walden (12 pitchers).
Offense - make Chavis starting 2nd. Infield becomes Moreland/Pearce, Chavis, Xander, Devers - Start sitting JBJ until he can find his stroke - use Lin in CF to spell him, or add Gorkys Hernandez. Hope like hell that this team can remember how to hit - Pearce's bat sorely needed.

Hope the players who are supposed to play better and have track records of playing better - play better.
Then fix the bullpen if they're in contention come 7/31.
Play Chavis at 2b until Holt/Pedroia come back and if they don't, it's Chavis' job to lose.

I'm not panicking and trading everyone when they have a bad month.
Also, there are just about zero significant trades available at this point of the season so good luck doing anything major.
Since I'm just a fan, I'll just sit back and keep watching games without bitching about the same thing every single day. If the games annoy me too much, I'll stop watching.

I may always be in the minority on this, but I'd go with youth. Do what we can to deal expensive guys, especially when they have greater trade value vs just before they're free agents. Maybe I'm naive, yet I don't see a huge difference in paying players huge dollars when lesser options are available and the dollar savings can be put elsewhere. I get it that Boston is a franchise which feels the need to always be in contention... BUT... we're coming off a WS title... we do a Marlins-like dump off... pick up a boatload of young talent and international signing monies... then lock up the young kids long term, we'd be set for a while. Teams need flexibility. Tampa Bay is set for a while. Could Boston position itself that same way, but with its larger budget, sustain that upward curve? I'd like to think so. Then again, maybe that's why I'm a keyboard jockey and not the General Manager...

-Chavis starting 2b
-Hernandez and Lakins to the pen for a good long look
- Nunez off the team
- JDM in the OF a lot more with JBJ used as 4th OF and defensive replacement exclusively.
- hope the rest of the team returns to normal.
If we are out of the playoffs come July.... offer Betts one last contract and trade him if he wont accept.

Tell Thornburg he is hurt and needs a long rehab before coming back. I am willing to believe he needs more time, just not on the MLB roster. I would carry 13 position players, not 12. Probably add Lin, at least until I see where Marco gets to on the rehab. I think I try to talk to Pedroia to retire or take a long rehab to see if he can make a return. He was rushed. I would trade Nunez for whatever I could get to dump payroll if nothing else. Send down Colten Brewer and add Ryan Weber
