Taugner went to Brown so another High A Brown sighting are you happy Dunne?
Crouse might strike out 20 Drive hitters...

I made it up to Hartford for getaway day. Hart was strong for 4 and 2/3 before tiring. He touched 91 on the stadium gun 4 times and 90 on three. His best pitch today seemed to be the slider that ran down and in on righthanders. As you would guess with that velocity, he was good at staying out of the middle of the plate and had good movement. He hit every speed in the 80's on his pitches so some of the cut fastballs and sliders were tough for me to tell apart. Only a few curves today that he varied speeds on. I saw a couple different change ups. One that moved away from righthanders and another that dropped straight down.

With 2 down in the 5th, he walked the number 8 hitter on a 3-2 pitch that missed badly, then hit the 9 hitter on the first pitch. He got out of it when Melendez flied to medium deep left. Hart started the 6th striking out the back up catcher, then Lovullo made a leaping grab robbing Welker of a double. Long double to the wall in right center and a line single to right ended the scoreless streak. He remained in to walk the next two batters. That inning reminded me that they are not managing for W's in the minors.

Lau finished the inning with a K but not before throwing a wild pitch. Lau's fastball was 90-94 hitting 95 with his last pitch. I've now seen Hart and Kent and they are both good double A pitchers that make me think of Bobby Poyner the way they battle without the big velocity, Hart a couple ticks more than Kent.

Yard Goats pitching was tough on the bats again today. Goudeau reached 94 with the fastball and also had an effective curve and change. Wilson lead off with a line single to left but was doubled off on Chatham's line out to second. Dalbec K'd swinging in the first on a very high fastball and on a slider in the 8th. 2nd baseman Metzler robbed Downs and Wilson of hits with highlight reel plays. Chatham had a very nice play for the Dogs going deep in the hole and throwing across his body. Downs caught a one hop throw and made a swipe tag that missed Nevin but the umpire called him out. Hoping to see Duran and maybe Mata at the end of the month.

CMF reported that Netzer hit one out of the park on Monday night. I just wanted to mention Dunkin Donuts park ( I think voted the nicest minor league park in a survey) has a very short right field at 308 down the line and doesn't move out quickly like Fenway. It's two right field decks have only a few rows (it looked like three and eight)and then some signage. I think it would be comparable to a ball hit over the monster when it only had netting above it but not as far as one hit over the monster seats.

In Salem today....
Duran went 2 for 5 lowering his average to .404.
Castellanos with another multi-hit game going 2 for 3 and his average is now up to .304 after this hot stretch. His average has never been under .300 in any of his professional seasons. That said, man, its still a mostly empty BA for him....that power he showed over the summer league (and in batting practice) is still not finding its way into minor league games although he does have 9 2Bs so maybe thats a step in the right direction.
Fitzgerald and Victor Acosta also both continue to hit in High-A, they each went 2 for 4 with a 2B and they combined for 7 RBIs.

Howlett 4-4 with a 2B Casas 2-4 with a 2B and HR Granberg 3-4 with a 3B (Granberg pretty much lost his job when they moved Casas to 1B)
All three needed a good day
