Our hitters have bats in their hands too. We could be hitting crap homers. But we aren't They have to make contact first.

Positives of the past few games: JBJ showing life! Devers turning into a superstar before our eyes! Xander playing like a top 3 SS in this league!

Oh look! We stranded more runners on base.
It’s been 5 min since the last time we did it so I guess we were due!

What's up with the money men. Runners in scoring position tonight and Betts and JD fail to deliver.

JBJ has looked like he's back, but he's been dreadful tonight. 3 Ks in 3 ABs and I could swear it's on 9 swinging strikes without him making contact even once.

2-12 RISP does not get it done. And in this park that's an embarrassment. Meanwhile, someone did actually invest in their bullpen in the off-season - and here it comes.

Mookie, Beni, JDM, Raffi, Chavis and JBJ a combined 2 for 19, 0 RBI - that's really not going to get it done.

Not unless you let it control you the way you let it. Feel the power of the Dark Side.

Picked a heck of a time to make that proclamation, hah.

Another nice play by Devers to go down the LF line quite a ways to make that catch.

It takes Morales at least a week to get 3 hits in a game. But, Chavis is on the bag ther i think they get him out.

Not unless you let it control you the way you let it. Feel the power of the Dark Side. On a positive note, the Sox are only two runs down. They are going to pull the rug out on Britton and Chapman.

Looking at the last 10 games for our key hitters
JDM really struggling - 7 for 39 2 HR 3 RBI Mookie just average - 11 for 44 2 HR 4 RBI Chavis gone cold - 7 for 42 1 HR 3 RBI Beni - 8 for 43 1 HR 5 RBI
That's pretty chilly for these four - we need their offense badly.

so are we still going to win the division or? what a mess this has turned into as we hit June; back to .500, 10 games behind the Yankees in the loss column

Well, we were at rock bottom level early in the season. We are revisiting the rock. Fallen back to just .500 - an average record for an exceptional team playing far below their capability.

Had him on the ropes and left him off the hook on 2 pitches
A .500 team right now

And there you go, a huge difference between the 2018 Red Sox and the 2019 Red Sox.
I hadn't been able to watch the game until I finally sat down in the 9th with 2 on and no outs, down 2. I saw all of 2 pitches, DP grounder and easy ground out.
In 2018, JD Martinez gets the huge base hit against Chapman and the Sox rally and win.
In 2019, JD Martinez hits into an easy DP destroying a rally and the Sox best hitter makes an easy game ending out on the next pitch.
But, hey here's some POSITIVE news for you.
The Red Sox cannot be swept four games in a row this series - thanks to the rainout.
So now the Sox are 0-4 against the Yankees. The Sox blew a bunch of opportunities from what I read and were just good enough to lose - again.
This team isn't winning any division. After tomorrow the Yankees will be up 10.5 games. This is their equivalent of the August series from last year that buried them. This time the Sox will have to realistically be looking at the wild card.
Can the Sox get scorching hot? Sure. They can cut into the lead.
But what happens when the Sox cool off afterwards? They gave themselves very little margin of error to work from to win the division.
I still stubbornly believe the Sox will get their act together enough to be better than Oakland and Cleveland.
I say try to upgrade the bullpen without giving up too much, see if the bench can be upgraded cheaply - dumping Nunez would help.
Hope to be the 2nd wild card, try to beat Tampa in Tampa, and hope to catch lightning in a bottle, but if this is the gutless way the Red Sox are going to handle the Yankees this year (totally different last year), then I'd just as soon see them lose to TB in the 1 game playoff than embarrass themselves against the Yankees, because if they think playing the pinstriped bastards this way is going to get them far....

so are we still going to win the division or? what a mess this has turned into as we hit June; back to .500, 10 games behind the Yankees in the loss column I just don't think they will win the division. The MFYs are for real and still have big additions returning from the IL and you have the Rays ahead of them as well. I think the Sox will go on another nice run of wins at some point but I don't think they will take the division. They have too much talent not to be in it for the Wild Card and that's the big thing for them. Maybe being the underdog at that point will spark them to make a run during the post season. The other thing is the MFYs have enough prospects and money to get another big starting pitcher at the deadline (Bumgarner perhaps) and sure up anything needed at that point. I don't think the Sox have too much money available under the luxury tax to add any big names.
