Last day before the break for Greenville and Salem. What are we thinking, Devlin Granberg, Thad Ward to Salem; Ryan Fitzgerald, Eduard Bazardo to Portland? Fitzgerald too blocked?

Fitz I could see them waiting on, especially given that Chatham JUST came off the IL. He's playing well, but not Duran-level, "OK this is dumb" well.
Granberg and Ward (who prefers Thaddeus btw) seem obvious. Bazardo could get bumped up, but I could see that coinciding with activating Joan Martinez rather than the break.
-----
Unrelated, I had a scout tell me that this Duran-less Salem team had the worst lineup he'd seen all year. Go Spinners!

Casas with an RBI triple.
I suddenly have a vivid image of the big fella jetting into third base at Jarren Duran speed. Cheat code unlocked

Howlett has brought his OPS up to .701. Not sure the last time he was over the .700 mark. Only a couple months older than Casas though, so he’s still very young. But good to see him trending upwards.

Why do people think that our best prospects at Lowell are batting in the bottom of the order? If the point is developing those with the best chance to help the major league club, why not hit the best prospects at the top of the order to give them more experience?

Jiminez and Decker are having their first taste of US professional baseball, Flores' has like 5 PAs in the GCL. Northcut played in the GCL exclusively. So I understand the fact that they want to ease them in. They're so far away that those things don't matter for now IMHO

Whatever happened to Trent Kemp?
Just to stay relevant to the topic I don’t think batting order matters all that much down there

Bobby Dalbec is OPSing 1.028 in June but most importantly he walked 15 times (3 IBBs) and struck out just 11 times. The promotion to AAA is coming soon.

Moreland and Pearce have been twice on the DL and we're not halfway through the season yet. Gotta cover your basis here.

The main thing we have to be hopeful of is that he doesn't change the approach he's using now to cut his k's down when he gets to hit the major league ball in AAA. His power will take off with the juiced ball.

I've read somewhere in an interview (IIRC it was with Chris Mason) that he made a few changes this year and now he has different swings that he uses depending on the scouting reports on the pitchers he has to face. I'm hopeful he'll build on those and having JDM as a resource in the big club will help.

Probably to break them in easily? They're probably all going to go through growing pains. Let them work their way up the lineup card if merited than have to move them down if they're struggling.

Poor guy hasn't been able to stay healthy at all as a pro. It’s a damn shame. He’s got the big time contact issues but it seems like he impacted the ball when he wasn’t striking out. Would’ve been really interesting to see what he and Rusconi could’ve done had they not been consistently betrayed by their bodies

I wonder if the veterans hitting higher in the Lowell lineup as placeholders for the draft picks also. For example, Cannon is going to be hitting second or third when he debuts. You probably don't want a situation where you're moving a player down in the order after a couple of weeks. If he's playing well it feels unfair, and if he's not playing well it could feel like a demotion.
It's hard to compare it to past Lowell lineups since they've never had this many interesting guys in Lowell who weren't the new draftees.

And keep in mind what was said above: Decker, Jimenez, and Flores have, between them, four United States professional baseball games played entering 2019.
Ian's got some good observations on the four top 20 guys from the past two days on Patreon. We'll record a podcast in the next couple of days and a lot of that will wind up on there.

Nice stateside debut for Aldo Ramirez in Lowell today: 5IP 4H 2ER 1BB 3K
As the Lowell roster currently stands, he's almost 3 years younger than the next youngest pitcher (Ryan Fernandez, who pitched 3 scoreless in relief today).

Anyway, when Gilberto Jimenez wins an MVP Award I will remember the time when he walked in front of me while I was taking a crummy cell phone video of someone else's BP in spring training and got super apologetic about it. As if he were somehow inconveniencing me.

This was 2 games ago, but I love posting videos of Casas. You can see a big league swing easy in there.
