I am not looking forward to the next Carson Smith and Tyler Thornburg trades, no. Or even Kimbrel. Yeah, I agree for the most part. Bailey, Hanrahan, Smith, Thornburg...trading for “established” “quality” relievers is a losing proposition. I’m not going to pan the Kimbrel trade, because it’s been done to death, and they basically got about what they could expect, and it more or less worked out. But that’s a TON of prospect capital to give up for two years of very good relief and one outstanding, at $39M. I mean, I think Giles is interesting but idk if I’d part with Mata for him. I think the ideal approach to relievers is exactly what they’ve done: comb waivers, make some minor trades, come up with the Waldens, Brasiers, Brewers, and Taylors, and polish them into quality arms, while drafting guys like Feltman and Schellinger, converting Weems, etc. Use low-cost volume and trust your gurus. I have absolutely ZERO complaints about this bullpen. It’s been solid, with a couple incredibly bright spots and some intriguing guys like Taylor. They go trading Dalbec or Duran and Mata or Hernandez for Yates or Giles...and the odds are probably even or worse they end up with Thornburg redux. If you can find a *deal*, on a guy you really like who doesn’t cost too much, OK. But trading Gleyber Torres (and they don’t even have anyone close) for Aroldis Chapman is just straight stupid. Better off finding a Wade Davis SP, trading a lesser prospect or two or taking on salary, and converting him to RP. Imo any reliever acquisition needs to be minimal cost talent-wise. The outcomes are just WAY too volatile. Cubs fans don't think the Chapman trade was dumb. They'd have over 110 years of losing if it didn't happen. Dombrowski is trading for a guy Telson imo. Get ready for it. You're probably not going to like it either.

If the Sox win this one...wow, what a battle. Really like what I saw from Taylor, especially. And the grind they’ve put on the whole game. THIS is what we saw in ‘18. Relentless.

After the velocity arms, not sure Velazquez with his middling stuff will baffle this line up. Free baseball again? (Gotta get out of this first) -

That HR was 391 feet and looked like it was hit 491 feet. What is with these parks?

Son of a bitch, going to bed now. Good call. I don't see them riding Velazquez for the win.

So we coughed up the lead twice after the 8th inning. The issue needs to be addressed soon

This game will have profound chain effect in the coming days. Better lose it in 9 than 15

And more bonus baseball. Can't keep my eyes open (spent too many hours out in the heat and humidity today - feel fried). May just peek at the box score on my phone from in bed....it was fun, y'all (will be more fun if they can finally win).

Calling Mike Carp? Darnell McDonald? Other position player pitchers of the past (yes, I know, we have Nunez)

Dammit, JBJ didn't run out of the box or it would have been bases loaded.

the bunt was dumb, and almost disaster. you dont bunt against a bad pitcher, when you only have velazquez left...now we might not get anything this inning

Now, THAT was weird. If JBJ ran right out of the box he would have been safe. And...what are you doing, Christian? First pitch swinging against a struggling reliever?
