Lol, I remember that...I thought you were nuts for prioritizing him over Mookie. But it was a good read, he wanted to stay, and there sure aren’t many SS out there like him. He’s been healthy, too, his whole career (tho he shouldn’t have played through that wrist injury). His deal is going to border on exceptional value, imo. I think he puts up a bunch of 5-8 WAR seasons in those 6 years. That’s $40-$64M in FA equivalent value for $20M a year. At one point over the winter I asked, with the salary crunch, would you let Bogey go (instead of paying a presumptive 7/$175M or so) and insert Lin, then sign Gerrit Cole with the 7/175? The estimate was that Lin (1.5-2 WAR) and Cole (4-6 WAR) would provide similar value to Bogey (4-6 WAR) and a low-cost starter (? WAR). My preference was to keep Bogey, but I was curious how people valued him. On his deal, tho, it’s a no-brainer, and my WAR estimate looks like it’ll end up low. OK here write this down. I prioritize signing Devers over Mookie. Mookie has to adjust to every pitcher pitching him offspeed outside like they did to Xander now and he is having trouble being elite doing it. But Devers can hit anything in any spot to any direction. I think Devers is the next Papi and while he can be good to better at 3B, imagine how many MVPs that could be. He's Carlos Delgado in my eyes, offensively. The swings are nearly identical.

This is my favorite putrid team ever! They gotta keep up this putrid gutless behavior.

Until a week ago the Sox had won only a single game after being reduced to less than a 10% chance of winning. And that was the second game of the season.
They've now done it twice in the last 5 games. They were 9.1% WP in the 9th of the O's finale after Holt made the first out, and tonight they were at 6.0% before Mookie tripled in the 7th.

Excellent comeback. I always have the feeling that when the Sox get into the Blue Jays bullpen they can come back. The Jays' pen hasn't been very good for awhile.
I also have to give a lot of credit to Dombrowski on this - he let Swihart go - I wasn't too thrilled with that and thought he should have gotten more of a chance than he did, and I still kind of feel that way.
But Dombrowski (and perhaps it was every bit as much Cora as it was Dombrowski) said, "Vazquez is our guy. We have decided to commit to him. He is the guy we believe in."
Looks like Dombrowski and Cora are correct. Hats off to them for that judgment.

This is random...
Having watched the replay of Vazquez hitting the walk-off about ten times, I don’t recall ever seeing a player drop (or sorta kinda flip) a bat in fair territory like that. He watched the ball and after a couple steps toward first, dropped the bat with his left hand well into fair territory.
I’m middle of the road on bat flips. I think they’re ok when a player is full of exhuberation but I’m not crazy about a flip done intentionally to show off or show up a pitcher. I really like the way Chavis has a very understated drop of the bat when he really crushes one.
I’m pretty sure that was the biggest or one of the two biggest clutch home runs Vaz has ever hit. It was a terrific bomb. I’d prefer he flip the bat into foul territory. It’s not a huge thing, just a little something I noticed that I can’t recall ever seeing before.

Cut him some slack, he hasn't had much practice.

good at bat by Chavis. His at bats DO look better lately (though he had some bad ones last night).

That was some very solid contact from Chavis on a high fastball.

Great game to pounce on and just dump 10 runs on this awful Toronto bullpen.
Hopefully this turns into a Brian Johnson turned to Josh Smith game and save some arms in that bullpen.

Chavis has adjusted for the most part.

Chavis has adjusted for the most part. I think the next step/adjustment is bringing back the power/walks. He’s gonna have to bake in some selectivity on pitches he can drive. But he’s definitely turned a corner.
