15 hits, 10 LOB, blown save, and this was a home game. That one burns a bit.

Just wait until I have about 500 posts complaining to you about it when it doesn't work out. I'm the negative one? Interesting. You are definitely not negative about big name relief pitchers to waste money and prospects on. You think every team has to be built like the 2015 Royals or they have no chance of winning. Once they make one trade, you'll be right there saying they need to make another one and another one.

Yes, I def agree with this, but I would hate to see them squander a chance at making a run again. It's obvious none feels good about the back end right now.

Sounds like he needs to keep going out there to really fix the problem.

Every single one of the last 10 games has been either an incredible win or a devastating loss.
And now we play the Yankees in Europe for some reason.

tale of two teams, two seasons. in 2019 when the Yankees blow their save they still win.
We are now 9 games behind them, 10 in the loss column.

Why did Cora go to Barnes again today? His performance on the second day of pitching back to back days is dramatically worse than the first day. Yes, Barnes coughed it up but why was he in there?
I'm not defending the bullpen but the ChiSox aren't within striking distance if the offense gets more than one 2-out hit in this game.

Before today's game the Red Sox bullpen ERA was 7th in baseball. They're 8th in innings thrown. They're 2nd in strike outs. They're 24th in walks allowed. They're 7th in BAA. I think the Red Sox, if they want to invest in this team, can do better than 7th-8th in ERA. They don't need to be the 2015 Royals, but can we agree that an upgrade is still an upgrade? On the surface it looks like they need a closer. I don't believe that, but they're blowing saves more than anyone and that's the obvious talking point. They need a guy who can throw strikes and not walk batters. That appears to be the glaring weakness of this pen. I'm a bit confused at the ESPN website as it shows teams with "CG" despite the stats only showing for "as reliever". www.espn.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/pitching/split/128/sort/ERA/order/false

That is brutal, but it is also a serious problem for a relief pitcher. Barnes is just not that good. Sox miss Hembree. I said it.

(Or since the first 3 weeks of the season at least.) The use of Barnes in June has really made no sense. Cora is usually more adaptive than this.

Sox can’t do shiz at home this season. Against bad or good teams.
I want them to sell. They have more holes than the BP and it’s not even guaranteed we get a WC spot.

I don't think people realize how hard it is to gain ground when you're squished against multiple teams. Someone is going to win and lose each day. They're now 1.0 games behind Cleveland and 0.5 against the Rangers and the Rangers have games in hand. They currently have a 1.0 game lead on Oakland who has played 2 less games as well. It's a really tight race and right now TB is going through a tough schedule which will eventually ease up. As for the Indians, they need to be seriously worried about. They have Chicago, Detroit and KC in their division. Just a bunch of garbage. Their big thing is if they can get the people on their IL back into the starting lineup. Salazar is starting rehab, Kluber is awaiting test results to see if he can potentially return to the mound this year, Carrasco has some blood thing going on which isn't disclosed since it's non-baseball related, and Clevinger is returning this Friday.

This is a fascinating season so far because their results continue to be analyzed in different ways. They hit well generally...but not early, or with men in scoring position. They have a very good record after the abysmal start...but are squandering winnable games.
They are driving this board crazy on many game days because this season is so confounding. Yes, teams win and lose. But poor situational hitting, poor baserunnung, blown saves, overworked pen, baffling use of the pen arms.. it'll drive a fan crazy.
Yes last year was incredible. But this is mostly the same team playing very differently.

I'm sure Barnes isn't just good enough to do the job. We have 5+ years to see who he is. This is just who he is, totally inconsistent. He isn't the only one appearing in game with 0 rest.

Redsoxfan2- Cleveland is.playing well but it seems the mgt would like to lose some games so they could trade some of their pitching to begin to rebuild their system.Maybe we can hold our breath and hope they go on a losing streak before the trade deadline

They've basically lost their equivalent of Price and Sale.

YOU'RE RIGHT AND I HAVEN'T SUGGESTED OTHERWISE!! Meanwhile you've attacked two posters since Matt Barnes blew a lead, including myself. You have used phrases like "think before posting," and "shut the hell up." You were a real pleasure to talk baseball with today, sir.
