Scherff scuffling lately and got roughed up in his last outing. Let's hope something clicks soon and he can finish the season strong.

Scherff scuffling lately and got roughed up in his last outing. Let's hope something clicks soon and he can finish the season strong. He actually had righted the ship, somewhat at least, in his previous four starts: 20.2-19-5-5-10-19. There's such a clear delineation between his April and his May that you wonder if he was focusing on developing a third pitch or something in those games.

You also have to wonder at what point does arm strength play into the equation. He's already at his innings total from all of last year and July just started.

Looks like Chris Murphy is making his debut for Lowell today.

Was the affiliate box scores link accidentally obliterated with the All Star Break removal of Pawtucket/Portland classic links? I realize it doesn't change and I could bookmark it but I am lazy.

Is there a particular reason Cannon hasn't debuted yet?

Something weird in Lowell, what happened to Erro ?:
Nicholas Northcut starts inning at 2nd base. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Alex Erro replaces Nicholas Northcut. Mound Visit. Wild pitch by pitcher James Ryan. Alex Erro to 3rd. Marino Campana strikes out swinging. Ricardo Cubillan singles on a line drive to center fielder Zach Watson. Jecorrah Arnold singles on a line drive to left fielder Dalton Hoiles. Ricardo Cubillan to 2nd. Kervin Suarez pops out to shortstop Clay Fisher on the infield fly rule. Xavier LeGrant flies out to right fielder Austin Hays.

Danny Diaz with a pair of doubles - gives him him six in 12 games. The homers will come, I am sure.

Interesting finish to the Lowell game. I know, I know with the runner on 2nd thing but both teams scored in the 10th, 11th, 12th & 13th.

The Lowell finish shows that the runner on second rule is foolish

Also, why can't we just end minor league games in a tie?

The Lowell finish shows that the runner on second rule is foolish I'm not a fan of the rule, but look at innings 6 through 9. The idea is for that not to continue indefinitely, which it didn't. I think it's a pretty rare occurrence for that many innings of even scoring to follow. I would be in favor of what's usually the rule in spring training: play the tenth, and if it's still tied, give up and go home.

Also, why can't we just end minor league games in a tie? Especially considering that most fans don't care that much about the outcomes and neither do the teams themselves.

The first part may be true but the second part is really, really false. Edit: When you say "teams" do you mean the Boston Red Sox don't care if the Lowell Spinners win or lose or the Lowell Spinners don't care?

I'd also be in favor of the play the tenth then go home rule and would even prefer it over playing it out for the minors (young arms and all). Think about how badly distorted late reliever stats are both plus and minus. How much more impressive was Logan Browning's recent run of scoreless innings when you consider that some of those innings started with a runner on second ?

I mean that the teams know damn well that the point of their existence is to develop major league players, not win.

Yeah, I think to say that the players "don't care that much" about winning may not have been the right way to put it, but minor leaguers know the point is to earn promotions and move up the ladder. They definitely care about winning, but I bet that 99% of them would prefer a game end in a tie after 10 or 12 (my preferred number) or so innings than to play 18 innings with position players pitching at the end.
