I think it depends on the situation. If Sale is in line for the win I think you should let him. I would just hate to see him give up a run and get the loss. You shouldn't manage any game that way, but you especially don't need to manage Chris Sale that way. Getting the win for the pitcher isn't the goal, getting the win for the team is the goal. Normally, I agree. I don't normally believe in intangibles, but I feel like Chris Sale is a different animal and think this recent slump is impacting him mentally. They had the team watching his BP to support him. I want him leaving this game feeling good about himself.

Sale will be fine if the Red Sox win, whether he gets the win or not. He will not be fine if the Red Sox lose, even if he gives up 0 runs.

Devers is so good it's silly to throw him anything over the plate.

Devers is so good it's silly to throw him anything over the plate. I'm telling you, that is coming. When he learns the severe patience that he's going to need, he's going to become the best hitter in the league.

Member how Clemente and Vlad Guerrero were great bad ball hitters and could hit the ball hard if it was anywhere near home plate? I see those tendencies in Rafi.

It terrifies me even in retrospect to think of how many chances Dombrowski probably had to trade Devers away.

Nice shutdown inning! Bring him out for the seventh?

Nice shutdown inning! Bring him out for the seventh? I'd rather let the bullpen start with a clean inning. That's asking a lot when Sale is starting with 101 pitches.

Nice shutdown inning! Bring him out for the seventh? They have 14 straight against NYY and TB coming up, so no.

It terrifies me even in retrospect to think of how many chances Dombrowski probably had to trade Devers away. Why? He specifically said no to every request! Even in the sale deal I know, and those were the best decisions he's made as a GM! It's just the thought that he could have said yes.

Walden has been terrible lately, Barnes is usually terrible when he pitches back to back days. Please be a drama free day bullpen

DD has been terrific in his time here. Tbh I didn’t like the hiring when it happened (I’m a prospecthugger) but he has been right way more times than he has been wrong.

Great start by Sale.
And now, the anxiety begins...
