Casas is going to be a big boy, bigger than people like Ortiz & Teixeira. Maybe bigger than Frank Thomas.

He’ll probably end up at 6’5/6’6 260 lbs which is absolutely terrifying to think about as a pitcher

Casas has 16 HRs with the season little over half way. The most teenage HRs I can find in the Sox system was Xander's 20 at age 19 (Salem & Portland). Unless there's someone I'm missing, he could shatter that mark this year. (Xander had 16 at age 18 at Greenville).

Casas ceiling is supestar, but do people here think he has any chance to be mlb third baseman? At 6'6 280? He's got no chance of sticking at third. It's not so much that he's 6-4, 238, but more that the actions over there just aren't great. He's only even gotten 8 games at 3B because he got 5 while Howlett was hurt recently. When they wanted to use DH to get Howlett or the seemingly perpetually dinged-up Dearden at-bats, they had to move Granberg to 1B and Casas to 3B.

Yeah Alex pointed out last night that Bogaerts was the last teenager to hit 20 in the system. That said, Devers hit 20 at age 20, and that was in AA-AAA-MLB. Miles Head hit 22 at age 20 in 2011 Rizzo hit 25 at age 20 in 2010 That's about it. Went back to 2000.

He didn't look particularly natural at third base this spring. Diaz, Howlett, and Northcut were all clearly ahead of him defensively there. Plus, I think he has the tools to be good at first base. His arm was solid, release not nearly as quick as the others, but the strength was good. And he's a pretty good athlete. I've used the McHale comparison before, physically. Those long arms and legs really could be assets at first, he might already be 6'6" and can probably stretch like someone who is closer to 6'8"+.
Most importantly, the bat should play there. If it stalls for some reason in the upper minors I could see him getting reps at third again just for versatility's sake, but right now I'd say his best-case path is a first baseman who rakes and plays above average defense.
Part of the reason I'm bullish on him is that he doesn't really profile like other Red Sox draft picks. For them to like someone with that profile suggests to me that they really, really liked him.

He had 12 at Greenville at age 19 and 4 more at winterball.

I noticed in the MLB Pipeline shot that he chokes up quite a bit. Or, perhaps there were two strikes on him when the photo was taken and he was just trying to make contact.

Matt Kent deserves a mention, solid start and got his first AAA win.

If he's a decent athlete is there a chance he could maaaaaayyybe play left? I don't want to get greedy and also don't care too much because the bat should play anywhere, but just curious.
