Can we take a moment to appreciate how good next year’s GCL team is going to be. Obviously a fluid situation-guys could flame out, be traded, skip the level, repeat the level, etc-but take the best players from the two DSL teams, throw in guys from next year’s draft, and guys that may repeat the year in the GCL and that’s one hell of a team. Tons of potential, although admittedly full of lottery tickets. You’re looking at Naysbel Marcano, Albert Feliz, Brainer Bonaci, Bryan Gonzalez, Eduardo Lopez, Eduardo Vaughan, Alex Zapate, and who knows what high school guys they draft next year. All on the same team. Now these guys may never reach the high minors, let alone the majors, and there’s always the DSL disclaimer, but with the potential and results they’ve shown in the DSL, that could be a very fun team to watch.

Chris, I believe you mentioned something about Bakst to Lowell a few days ago. Is that on the back burner now?

Real HOT at Ed Smith Stadium today in Sarasota, but it certainly did not pertain to the bats of the GCL Sox. Two players stood out for me. Jorge Rodriquez looked real good. Smaller lefty with a fastball that got up to 93 and excellent command. Repeated his mechanics well. And....Matthew Lugo made 3 excellent plays in the field. One was a ball up the middle that he dove for and came up quickly with and threw a seed to first for the out. His body is already pretty solid and will easily add 10 good pounds. Offense? Almost none. Rafael's hits were bloops. Diaz's double was a liner down the left field line. Did I say it was hot? My Little Brother (I'm his BIG) was ready to leave after 5 innings!

Thanks for the report! I've been curious about Rodriguez who is only 18 with a solid overall line: 20.2IP 20H 8ER 6BB 22K

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see them ease him into his first time back into organized baseball, but next year I could see them being relatively aggressive with him.

I wouldn't be surprised if he takes the starting 2B job in Greenville next year Over Cameron Cannon? 2020 Projected Rosters has him as the starting SS in Salem, FWIW. Not sure if that's been updated to reflect the slightly delayed start in his development due to injury or not, but worth noting.

Oh yeah, should have mentioned I see Cannon starting in Salem. If Cannon does start next year in Greenville, assuming all goes well, he'd be an early promotion type.

OK. That makes some sense. I guess we'll see about Cannon. Salem would be aggressive, but maybe that's be because he hasn't been too healthy for Lowell yet. But we'll see.

I've been thinking that would be the typical first full season assignment for a guy as advanced as Cannon. Netzer and Duran started their first full seasons there but they also got to Greenville in their draft year, so if Cannon doesn't make it to Greenville soon...I could see him briefly starting next year in Greenville.

Was at the GCL game today for only 40 minutes due to a conflicting doctor visit.
Rafaela had a bloop single first time up but was picked off first when he hesitated attempting a steal. He looks like Mookie light. He is listed at 5'8" and 150 lbs. Still he has musculature.
As Steve said, Diaz had a nice line drive double to left. He's still a bit pudgy. He made a big blunder while on third when he tried to score on a batted ball back to the pitcher with one out. Oooff....He was out by 30 feet
Lugo had two nice stops in the field. The first was deep into the hole with a wide throw to first but the second was a full out dive to his left, rise and throw out at first. Range was major league in both cases. As noted, this guy looks the rangy athlete.
Jorge Rodriguez, LHP, has a smooth delivery showing a low 90s FB at 5' 11"
Best I could do under the circumstances.

Casas with a really good day at the plate. I wonder if one day he will be as strong as dalbec.

Dalbec sure is interesting. One of the most nebulous sox prospects I can recall. Looked up his stats as he seemed to be slumping, and he is, sorta. But then I noticed the walks. The number of base on balls he's getting is striking.

Casas with a really good day at the plate. I wonder if one day he will be as strong as dalbec. That seems like a pretty good bet given how huge Casas is. He may be pretty close already and he's five years younger than Dalbec.

Casas ceiling is supestar, but do people here think he has any chance to be mlb third baseman? At 6'6 280?

If Casas was likely to spend much time at 3B in the majors, he'd have played more than 8 games at 3B in Greenville.

It doesn’t matter because the bat plays anywhere and everywhere but I think there’s a 0% chance Casas ends up at 3rd in the majors
He’s a house. Will probably be a really good defender at 1st, which we’ve recently learned isn’t as unimportant as initially believed. Last night is a good example
