Updated draft prospect list over at MLB Pipeline....its expanded to 150 prospects with Torkelson now in the top spot. Also moving up were Asa Lacy, Zac Veen, and Max Meyer among others. I imagine this could be the last update for this list seeing as how there will be little data/information to justify movement between now and whenever the draft occurs. Edit. Regarding my latter point from Callis on Twitter: "Our #MLBDraft rankings shouldn't change much if at all after this, though we will expand to 200."

And now we know the Sox lose only their second-round pick. Could have been worse.

And now we know the Sox lose only their second-round pick. Could have been worse. Definitely could have been worse, but the Astros got a 1st, 2nd, and $5mil fine for an entire season of explicitly cheating. Red Sox only did what they did during a small portion of times where there was a man on 2nd base ( 19ish% of ABs league wide that season) and they dock a pick? Should've been a fine and called it a day, but Manfred spent too long dragging his feet to only slap them with a fine, I guess.

Excited for the 17th pick again. Reading a couple of mock drafts online and it seems like the Sox have the potential to get a good one. Two names that intrigue me are Kjerstad and Bitsko.

For what it's worth, the Astros were docked two number ones and two number twos. Just in terms of slot money it's roughly seven times what the Red Sox penalty was (give or take a couple hundred thousand depending on where they actually pick).

MLB Pipeline's best tools in the draftIf you make it to the end, note a 5th-year senior noted for best control in the draft. He has stuff too. He could be a really interesting sign for a team that drafts him fairly early to generate savings in an abbreviated draft.

If it does, then that means the players are worse off today than we all think they are. Speaking for myself, I couldn't be happier about this change.

He could be a really interesting sign for a team that drafts him fairly early to generate savings in an abbreviated draft. I was going to say that in an abbreviated draft teams wouldn't even have time to do that, but if you have a fifth year senior who is LEGIT, then that would make sense. Not unlike Noah Song last year, really. And it's going to take a lot more money to make guys not go to school, so that would give some team a huge advantage. He'd probably get taken in the second or something if the draft is just 5 rounds, so the team knows they have the cash for someone in the later rounds.

Red Sox going full quarantine by drafting some yarn and knitting sticks?

I thought the general consensus was that it was going to be in July at some point. We'll see.

Crochet took a really ugly liner off the face last year and needed a plate put in his jaw, but he only missed two weeks. The liner actually ended a stretch of rough pitching - looking at his game log, he'd been excellent for most of the year but then hit the wall in his last four starts (@ Arkansas, vs. Mizzou, @ Florida, vs. Ole Miss) with 20 runs in 18 2/3 innings. He's a fastball/slider guy who mixes in a change that's apparently a work in progress.

I thought the general consensus was that it was going to be in July at some point. We'll see. No, they were considering moving it, in part if that meant they could have some kind of combine or something and in part if it meant they could have it in person. My guess is they realized that the former is not happening anytime soon and on the latter, they saw the success of the virtual NFL Draft - if anything, having it sooner helps them pop a rating for a sports-hungry population.

Right - they hadn't actually moved the draft, but, the likes of Kiley McDaniel, JJ Cooper, etc predict a July draft. That's what I meant by general consensus.

List of players I’d love the Red Sox to take (obviously some are more unlikely to be available than others).
1) Max Meyer 2) Austin Hendrick 3) Garrett Crochet 4) Jared Kelley 5) Heston Kjerstad 6) Alex Santos 7) Cole Wilcox 8) Mick Abel 9) Cade Cavalli 10) Ed Howard
Not feeling in no particular order. Peter Crow-Armstrong, Robert Hassell, Patrick Bailey, JT Ginn.

Baseball America released their initial Top 500 rankings today. Among the list are two former Red Sox draftees: #98 - Trenton Denholm, RHP, UC Irvine (2017-26th Round) #451 - Garrett Irvin, LHP, Arizona (2019-40th Round) Also, Tristan Casas' younger brother Gavin (1B, Vandy commit) is ranked at #385. www.baseballamerica.com/rankings/2020-mlb-draft-top-prospects/

Wtf is even wrong with the owners? This plan saves them, like, a few hundred thousand each. What an asinine proposal. I'm glad the players called them on it.

If it only goes 5 rounds, that means that all the other players will be free agents to make any deal they want with whomever they want. There would be a feeding frenzy by teams. The players could play one team against the other. I like it.

Players would be better off playing in Japan or Korea.
