The minor league playoffs have always been kind of weird. Usually the best prospects are promoted, the rosters are never anything like what they played with in the regular season. If ever there was a situation for awarding league titles based on regular season record rather than random postseason series, minor league baseball is it.

With the best prospects having been called up, the minor league playoffs are just an exhibition. Having playoffs and a championship give the players something to play for, and the fans almost like a reward for their loyalty, but in some ways it feels like an exhibition since the players that got the team to the playoffs are gone.

I'm actually mildly excited about getting to skip April in Portland and have games in the warmer September and early October.

I mean, literally no player is playing for the playoffs. They're playing to keep their jobs and get called up. Maybe it becomes a secondary goal down the stretch. Little appreciated fact is that by the end of the season, many players are thrilled by the prospect of the season ending. But yeah, compare the 2019 Salem playoff roster with the roster they had pretty much all season. They legit promoted Rusconi, who'd been with them all year, off the roster so Casas could get another week or two of at-bat's. Meanwhile, Lowell had Tom Windle, who had basically 2 years of AAA experience, coming out of the bullpen to face lefties in big spots, and Roldani Baldwin DHing. It's just such a silly exercise.

In the 2010 AA Eastern League postseason, both New Hampshire and Altoona had to face Andy Pettitte for Trenton (rehabbing, obviously). I do wonder a bit about attendance--it has seemed to me that attendance drops off noticeably once school starts.

Would April vs. September be different though? Early season attendance is typically poor for the same reason, I feel like, plus the whole weather thing in the northeast.

Yeah, you're right--I suppose it seems less noticeable to me when it's the start of the season vs. the dropoff from the last week of August to first week of September (especially when the latter is hyped as the postseason).

This just in, businesses will do thing that allows them to be most profitable going forward. More at 11.
I wonder if they worked out any of the various issues in the PDLs.
Edit: Read the article, Hatfield.

"You know what the real problem is?" said the Baseball Men, chewing thoughtfully on their cigars. "These league names are just too descriptive. 'Pacific Coast League.' 'International League.' Well la-di-da! Something a little more bland and divorced from history and tradition - 'Triple A West, Triple A East' - that's the way to go, old boy!"
And so they called it a job well done.

"International League" hasn't been descriptive in 13 years.

Ooooh okay. Does that mean they're still open for suggestions?
AAA East: Eastern Occidental League; Farm, Yankee, and Dixie divisions AAA West: Tumbleweed League; Cattle and Mountain divisions AA Central: Texas League AA Northeast: Rust Belt League AA South: Robert Johnson "Crossroads" League High A: Great Lakes, Appalachian-Adjacent, and Drugstore Cowboy Leagues Low A: Swamp, Retiree, and Central Valley Leagues

Sounds like it may be more along the lines of: "Bank of America Presents: Central League" "PepsiCola Refreshing League"

Any idea when the Fedex Phillies and the Jetblue Sox GCL seasons start? I’ll say this: if tickets and beers could be slightly cheaper, I’d be fine with uniforms being covered in ads, teams being the Boston Red Sox presented by Verizon etc. Truthfully, the ads on EPL jerseys etc sometimes look kinda cool.

I'm really relieved to learn that the new league names are placeholders. Branding I'm not so high on.
I have a breakdown of how the "new" leagues relate to the old that I'll probably post some time. But the only truly new league is the high-A East, which is 6 clubs from the SAL, 3 from the NYPL, 2 from Car, and 1 from the MWL. The low-A East is 7 clubs from the Car and 5 from the SAL, but 3 of those 5 clubs are in the Carolinas ... the old Car had 5 of 10 clubs from the Carolinas and this one has 7 of 12.

Yeah the Carolina and South Atlantic Leagues had a ton of geographical overlap. Can't make a big deal out of just shuffling those teams around.
