To me, the more believable scenario is ownership just wants to dump as much of that salary as possible, and they’re not patient enough to wait a few months While its possible Price has a terrible Spring... I think its more likely he has a good one. I actually think Price will flourish in LA. I don't think he's done. He'll never be what he was, but i think there's still a very good pitcher there. I just think the Sox didn't want to take the gamble. They want that flexibility next season for future signings and extensions in the 2020-2021 off-season. It'll help them sign George Springer That sounds good to me! I would love to see Springer here. Flexibility next year will be really nice to have again, and I believe its a really good/deep FA crop. You don't realize losses until you sell, but baseball is so uncertain. We can all just pray for the best, and hope the Sox have an ace up their sleeves.

The only free agent signing I want next offseason is the signing of Mookie Betts to a long-term contract.

Those extensions can be officially done the 2nd day of the season and not count toward this year's figures. They can be announced whenever. Why, did the rule change? If the Sox extended with Devers today and made it official today, it would count on this year's totals, wouldn't it?

I believe they changed in the past year or two. The hit to the luxury tax now takes place the year the new contract starts and doesn’t factor in years already under contract.

I don’t understand the viewpoint that Price’s value is high when he was just hurt.

The Twins were planning on using Graterol as a reliever. That makes sense given his delivery motion, history of arm and shoulder problems, and being significantly overweight. He missed two months last season due to injuries. All this information is publicly available. Why would the Red Sox think he could be a starter? Not a good start for Bloom and his scouting staff. Lolololol Your post became an absolute joke when you said he’s significantly overweight, there’s video of him playing last year. You know that right? Marble-sharp Numerous sites, including Baseball Prospectus list him at 6’ 1” 265 which is significantly overweight for a baseball player. legacy.baseballprospectus.com/card/106074/brusdar-graterol

Here’s hoping Downs is at least half as good as his namesake.

Ken Rosenthal @ken_Rosenthal · 1m Deals coming together. #Dodgers in agreement with #MNTwins, pending medical review - Maeda and cash would go to MIN for Graterol and another prospect. Other elements perhaps. Meanwhile, per @jeffpassan , LAD and #RedSox in agreement on Betts and Price for Verdugo-Jeter Downs-plus.

Better than the previous haul. Rather Downs than Graterol. But still feels like poor return. Would rather have a year of Mookie and comp pick.

I don't really care what the return is. This is a sad day.

The new trade will send Betts and David Price to L.A., with OF Alex Verdugo and SS Jeter Downs among the return for Boston.

I'm hoping we got 1 out of Ruiz, Gonsolin, Gray or Cartaya I doubt the Dodgers decide to "throw in" a 55+ FV guy like Ruiz, but here's to hoping

not a bad start...hopefully one more pretty good piece and im happy enough I could be totally wrong (duh), but I doubt the other pieces are highly regarded prospects or quality major leaguers, or they probably would have been known already along with Verdugo and Downs.

I just feel like this leaves the Sox with a ton of work. Lose a star for two guys who do not project to be stars.
