Don’t want to jump the gun but we’re close to getting the reset on the money. Fingers crossed that was step one. Trade deadline and finishing the year with our record for thus year being the draft slots.
I wonder if they adjust the money allocated for the picks. Do they go back to 40 rounds, 30 rounds. To me very ridiculous . Maybe finally clean up the international amateurs. This is the time to close that up. I’m not worried we have good , relationships in these areas. So strong in Venz. Making inroads in these other places. Taiwien, Mexico, Nic, Hond.

I would imagine they want to see how (and if) the season concludes as planned. On top of whether or not the season concludes, there's some other factors that need to be considered (e.g., how many games did each team play?) when thinking through what makes sense for a draft order.

Looks like they updated the article. Now saying they expect between 20-30 rounds and nothing is concrete yet. Also said that sources believe nothing will change in determining the draft order, but Manfred has the right to determine draft order and that's still up in the air.

Per Kiley McDaniel, UDFAs will again be capped at $20k, draft bonuses will be deferred again like they were this year, and teams are planning to do more of a general, all-encompassing orientation to the pros in lieu of short-season ball.
Honestly, I don't think the draft is ever going back to more than 30 rounds, and that's fine. It was too long anyway even before accounting for any minor league contraction.

This is part of the overall plan that MLB has been laying out. I agree, there is no turning back.

I think the cap on UDFAs is frustrating, though. Is there any logical reason for it, since the overall draft budget is already capped? There's no cost savings to the teams.

I don't know if this has been covered at all but has there been any word on if Rule 5 draft positioning will be based upon seeding this year? Bloom seemed to zero in on guys who were going to be Rule 5 eligible this fall. Even with the current crop of prospects and guys added at the deadline it feels like there will be opportunity for more additions.

Chris and Ian, I remember one of you saying there is no way that the Red Sox are gonna be worse than the Pirates on the last podcast.......but I mean...they just might be. It’ll be close but we should not underestimate this team’s potential.

Chances are if the sox end up in the top two MLB decides to do a lottery system and we end up with the 7th pick.

You're missing the H in the last name kid. Nah! ar vs er car vs slider It's wicked complicated. Aside: before my wife and mother passed away, we took a trip to Mass for a last time visit with my mom (Alzheimer's). We were on the road and stopped to get directions from someone. When we got back into the drive my wife turned to me and said "This will be interesting, I can't wait to see the fork in the road."

Besides the two Vandy pitchers, I'm looking forward to following Jud Fabian, Jordan Lawlwer and for whatever reason, Brady House.

I feel better if they just say its merit based draft. I feel there is biased against us in anyway possible. I point to the penalty we just recieved in the draft. I feel people get in Manfred's ear. I would love a huge draft allocation $$$$. Imagine what Chaim and Paul Toboni can do.

It would have been one thing if the draft formula and various contingencies (i.e., "If at least X games aren't completed, then draft order will be determined by Y") had been made known prior to the season starting, but waiting to make a change until everyone can clearly see which clubs are getting screwed would just be a terrible look...as would the tacit admission that the 2020 season is essentially illegitimate.
Both of which give me hope that they'll just leave it alone...but also, Manfred.

Recently, I said that more thought and discussion was probably given on this forum to whether the commissioner's office would change the draft order than had occurred in the commissioner's office itself. I guarantee that with your one post, you have done the same regarding Rule 5 draft order! That said, I don't believe it was a consideration in the March agreement, but only because I haven't seen anything saying it was.
