I don't like the current pairing or how they are being used. Why are we having Chavis start games against lefties? At quick look it makes sense as in 2019 Chavis posted a .742 OPS against LHP and Moreland was .669 OPS. Yet Chavis was only .674 OPS against LH starters vs. .809 OPS vs. RH starters, while .742 vs .774 lefty vs righty overall.
In 2019 Moreland was .831 OPS vs. RH starters and .857 OPS vs. LH starters, his career line is .772 vs. .729 against starters and .791 RHP vs. .669 LHP. I'll admit Morelands 2019 line versus LH starters is small at 54 ABs, yet his career numbers are over 600. Maybe they cherry picked pitchers, yet there is a difference between LH starters and LH relievers who many are deadly against lefties, where the starters need to be better against RH hitters.
So he's not horrible against LH starters, yet gets killed by lefty relievers. Moreland is also better against RH relievers than starters, the exact opposite of Chavis.
What they are currently doing is having Chavis face only the exact type of pitcher he hit the worst against in 2019. You want him hitting LH relievers, not starters and he's also good against RH starters yet that's what Moreland gets. Maybe this is painting a picture that isn't true because I'm not looking up Chavis minor league numbers and we only have one year of data. Yet it sure looks like if Moreland is your guy vs RH pitching, then you need someone else to hit LH starters and we are currently doing no favors to Chavis.

Certainly interesting....I'd be curious to see what Moreland's career splits are, and Chavis's minor league numbers. Not sure you can draw a definite conclusion from one season, especially since Chavis AB were limited.

Where’s Longhi? .339 avg vs Lefties last year with over .1069 Ops Outstanding defense on 1B. Not even in camp??? Really?

Behind Dalbec in terms of the depth chart and would be exposed to waivers when rosters decrease from 30 or if Chaim wants to keep up the claim game. Additionally, they're covered on the 60 man with RH OF. He's the perfect MLFA for next year's spring training.

He's only done that once, for example he had a .670 OPS against lefties in 2018. He needs to show he can do that year after year to be a lefty specialist for 1B. Then again he couldn't do worse than Chavis currently is, yet it's likely they want to develop Chavis.

Against starters .772 vs .729 2019 .887 vs .598 Against starters .831 vs .857 I'd look more in depth at Chavis in the minors yet no one gives you totals and I'm not spending that much time calculating all the years together.

To be fair Longhi’s 2018 was a rehab year half AA and 80 abs in AAA after TJ surgery 2018 season included two dozen Sporadic 1 ab pinch hits and a couple dozen sporadic DH’s. His overall career avg. excluded rehab year is .285 ish. Not bad and overall consistent year to year. Not saying anyone is wrong but just including facts .

2013-2017 Longhi's OPS against LHP was .697, .814, .724, .803 and .677. His average isn't bad yet most players see a decent decrease in numbers at the major league level and Longhi's numbers go up and down. He needs to build on those 2019 numbers because they are the outlier right now.

Vazquez played 10 games at 1B last year, starting 7. The way he's hitting now it might be a way to keep his bat in the lineup when he needs a rest from catching and they're facing a LHP. I know he's short for the position, but only an inch shorter than Chavis.
