i prefer that the Sox beat the Jays a few more times and still be in the race. FWIW, if the Mets had swept their DH today, they'd still be alive. And COLORADO. if they had swept theirs on FRI, they'd be alive. That wasn't the question. I prefer the Sox went 60-0

Phillies eliminated, I feel bad for a team whose front office tried so hard but couldn't make the cut. If I recall correctly, they got fleeced at the trade deadline. They were not eliminated. They're in if they win, the Cardinals beat the Brewers, and the Giants lose.

I do feel bad for them though and also feel bad for Mike Trout & The Angels not making the playoffs.

All three of the hits off Houck were by right handed batters.

Catching up live after a long phone call ... I always had this game down as a win (and last night as a loss). Tomorrow was always going to be the big one. Meanwhile, I don't think you can search on the first 3 games of a career at Stathead (the old Play Index). But this has to be among the best. 17 6 2 1 9 21. Ans two of those walks (at least) were K's! Only one player in the lively ball era has a lower ERA in a season with a minimum 15 IP and 3 GS, and that was another rookie, Mike Norris of the A's in 1975, at age 20.
He had a 16.2 6 2 0 8 5 line. And one of the unearned runs was from his own throwing error. And he only faced 1 batter (who he walked) in his third start, in April, after throwing 16 innings in his first two. And when he finally pitched again on 9/25, he came in with 2 outs and the bases full and allowed all three runners to score. And they lifted him when he gave up a hit and walk when he only got 1 out in the next inning. So an extremely bogus ERA.
So this may be the greatest rookie starting pither cup of coffee in MLB history. I'm going to look at K's and hits next.
I’d take Houck being 1980 Mike Norris. No pressure!! Damn it, you sent me down the A’s pitching wormhole.

A must lose last game of the season. Glad to see Houck do well and glad to see that Washington won both theirs and the Tigers won so that no positioning has changed. Rooting for Pivetta so really want this to be a 1-0 loss on an error or something.

As long as our pitchers know to go out, work on whatever they want to, have fun and nothing that happens today will be held against them

I am hoping the Braves bring their 'A' lineup because I want to beat their best (wink, wink).

If the Sox are going to win today I am hoping we at least get to see a Bobby Bombs dinger.

LOL, some fat guy playing 3B for the Braves.
Most of the regulars are in the lineup. This should be a better Pivetta test than the Orioles.

Last game of the "season". Another journey completed. Better days ahead, for sure. Thanks to all on this site for their work and thanks to the other members for sharing the ride. Hopefully, in the future, we can get past openly rooting for the Sox to lose.

Sign Ozuna next year so I wouldn't see him beating them like a pulp.

I can make it to the ballpark to pitch for the Sox today if needed.
clearly Detroit and Baltimore not going to help us.

I really didn't want to root against Dalbec there so I'm glad he drew a walk. I don't think the Orioles will help us, have to do it ourselves.

I like that they read the promo for the official weight loss program of the Sox when Fat Panda was at bat.
