Been going through every outfielder available. Joey Gallo is actually the name that is most appealing to me. I was surprised to see how good of a outfielder he was. He's a big guy, but he must move really really well. Like a tight end in football. He was a 12 DRS in RF in 2020.
He brings versatility and the OBP. He can play all 3 outfield positions and first base. He's highly unusual with the strikeouts, but he's generally been well above league average OPS wise. The added defense ontop of that makes him a great target.
Texas has said to be selling him all off-season.
Maybe this is the perfect time to sell high on Dalbec and get Gallo.
Dalbec and a A ball prospect. Is that fair?

Maybe you sign Moreland and give Arroyo a first base glove. Sign a full-time second baseman and use that until you bridge the team to the Casas and Jeter Downs era.

Dalbec and a A ball prospect. Is that fair? I personally like the idea. I think it would benefit the Rangers more to expand the deal to include Odor. You could probably get the Rangers to throw in a guy like Jonathan Hernandez just for taking Odor. Gallo, Odor and Hernandez for Dalbec. Gallo is cheap enough at $5.5mm and has one more arb year in 2022. Odor's AAV is $8.25mm for 2021, 2022 with a team option for 2023 ($3mm buyout). You could platoon him with Arroyo at 2B. Odor has a career .748 ops vs RHP. Has some power and decent speed. Moving Odor saves them $27mm. Hernandez is pre arb. Red Sox fill three roster spots for around $14mm. Still need to bring in Mitch at 1B and could keep Chavis around.

Just means Gallo would be worth 14 million for 2021 and probably close to 20 million for the second season. Getting a top prospect or Hernandez on top of that, would make it fair. Odor would be a DFA candidate immediately.

But at an AAV of $8.25 isn’t crippling. I may be in the minority around here, but I think it’s going to take about two more years to get this organization in really good shape. At that point, Pedroia, Martinez, and Eovaldi will be off the books. Even Vazquez and Benentindi will be free agents. At that point, only Bogaerts and Sale will be the only guaranteed contracts left, assuming Devers and Verdugo aren’t extended by then. So I’m looking at deals where the Sox could absorb a bad contract of two years or less, that could help add some upside players to help now and later.
