I've taken the below from something I posted in 2017, but it's still applicable. A lot of threads have been devolving into pissing matches this week. We're not going to tolerate posters who aren't able to maintain proper decorum. That kind of nonsense makes new and less-engaged posters feel unwelcome, and we're going to just start deleting posts and banning people who can't play nice in the sandbox here. That's not to say we like or want to do it, but that we will moderate the forum as necessary. And again, if you think I'm specifically referring to anyone below - this is almost entirely taken from 2017, with some updating.
The forum moderators want to remind posters of the first Forum Ground Rule regarding civil posting. It's become clear to us recently that a number of posters have refused to change their posting habits after a number of private and public warnings. Going forward, the moderators will not hesitate to impose temporary or permanent bans on posters who continue to fail to abide by the forum rules after warnings.
So we're all on the same page:
Good posting! = Respectful, thoughtful discussion and debate; accepting that you may not change the mind of other posters after you have each made your points; staying on-topic (topical tangents that naturally occur as part of a discussion are fine, but may be politely nudged back on-topic).
Bad posting! = Continued, repetitive posts after your point has already been made; personal attacks on other posters; unnecessary snark and derision; stating your opinion as indisputable fact; moving the goalposts to avoid being proven wrong; taking over the discussion with a multitude of posts (i.e., you don't need to respond to every post in a thread); baiting other posters into arguments; whining when other posters disagree with you; habitual driving of threads off-topic; failing to maintain an intelligent level of discourse (this is not the forum for reactionary, " Dumbrowski sux! Bloom is making us the Rays!"-level venting, a point referring to the thought put into the post rather than the content of the ideas expressed).
To be clear, if you're a new poster, please don't feel like this means you need to watch your step when joining and posting. To the contrary, the goal here is to create an environment in which new people feel comfortable joining the discussion! In our efforts to get folks to join the Forum this season, we heard many responses from both new and long-time members who'd felt uncomfortable posting because of the habits of some forum members. In response, we're not going to tolerate posting habits that have the effect of decreasing others' enjoyment of the forum. We've banned posters for similar reasons in the past.
We understand we have higher standards for posting here relative to other sports-related forums and message boards. We do so to create a knowledgeable and civil place for discussion where posters from all backgrounds feel comfortable sharing their questions, insights, and respectful opinions.
