The amount of people that either can’t do math or don’t know how many games there are in a season is astounding

Record: 85-77 CY Young: Richards MVP: Devers Breakout Player: Pivetta Reliever of Year: Barnes CPOY: JD Playoff Finish: ALDS Breakout Prospects: Jimenez, Yorke Prospect w. Most MLB Impact: Duran
I don't understand some of these new analytics, I couldn't find a way to get them to 164 games...

The main takeaway so far is that math is hard

We're batting about .600 on being able to count to 162 here. And so far, looks like I'm the only one who wants to take the over on fangraphs' 50% odds of making the playoffs? (My prediction here has more to do with very few other teams in the AL looking especially strong than it does with unbridled optimism about the Red Sox.) I'm not necessarily pessimistic about them making the playoffs, but it's going to be a tough division with the Yankees, Rays, and beefed up Blue Jays. Gonna be a lot of body blows going back and forth in divisional matchups.

My irrational pie-in-the-sky hope: 2013-type success in with mid-level FA signings; Parade. My rational fear: Being nowhere near a championship team but on the fringes of the WC race at the deadline and not acquiring additinal prospects. One 2019 is enough.

83-81 Rodriguez Devers Cordero Hernandez Rodriguez N/A Gilberto Jimenez- he’ll start driving the ball and jump onto every top 100 prospect list Seabold 164 games? That’s what happens when you get fractionally dumber every single day since graduating college lol. I doubled up 82 for some reason because that’s how many games the Celtics and bruins play. Thoughtless error I revise to 82-80

100-87. what the Hay, if everyone wants to add games i may as well too. If anything, there will be less than 162 games played this year. I'm predicting a shortened season due to outbreaks. I hope to be wrong.

I fee a little pressure to answer in character ....
Record: 94 - 68 if they sign JBJ, 92 - 70 if not. CY Young: Richards, Eovaldi, tie * MVP: Devers Breakout Player: Franchy Reliever of Year: Sawamura CPOY: Richards Playoff Finish: 1st WC; q.v. 2013 Breakout Prospects: Jimenez, Aldo Ramirez ** Prospect w. Most MLB Impact: Whitlock (nothing special) if JBJ, Duran if not
* a/k/a "cheating"
** We have a Gonzales, a Perez, and two Hernandez's. We are sorely lacking a Ramirez!

I won't answer in the same context of the format, but Darwinzon has a chance to be a reliever of the year while being the Cy Young of the staff. He could throw the best innings on this team. Like 100 elite innings this year.
Devers should bounceback, but how much?
Will they make the playoffs? No
Verdugo is probably the best overall and most consistent player on this team and that isn’t changing anytime soon. Xander should be part of this conversation, but his defense at short stop puts him out of the conversation. Great consistent perfect Fenway bat. Devers is too up and down.
JDM has as much of a chance to hit 30 homeruns as he does to land on the IL half the year at his age. Can't even make a prediction on this one.
Garret Richards will be seen as a reliever by the trade deadline and a team that trades for him will use him as such after the Sox trade him.
Duran up by July and will be playing 75 percent of the games when he gets called up. Mata, Seabold, Eduard Bazardo, all get cups of coffee and impress. Likely going to be a lot of talk of all three opening with the team next year.
Whitlock shoves and people talk about him being in the rotation next year, too.
Bloom finds a deal for Eovaldi and eats cash at the trade deadline. This is where Houck gets a extended look. Vazquez gets dealt at the trade deadline. Add- Barnes and Ottavino dealt at the trade deadline also.

Just to expand, what I hope to happen is that the 2021 team has a very 2015 team feel to it.
They may not have a great record to show anything, but they have rookies that you feel really good about like in 2015. Only this time instead of it being a brand new stunning outfield, it's a lot different.
It's a in house rotation (with Sale and Eduardo at the top) for the first time in the John Henry ERA. The pitching might be the best part of this team by 2022.

Smart move. The casual bettors, the ones setting the odds, aren't subscribed to Baseball America, and they aren't visiting Fangraphs, MLB, ESPN or any of the other sites to make their projections. That inefficiency can make you money. The Red Sox for one only have to stay in the hunt, working to get into the playoffs. Those odds would change in a hurry if they can do it - that I'll bet on.
