Back to back doubles by Casas & Granberg gave the Sea Dogs a 1-0 zip lead in the first. Ponies matched that in their half of the 1st. It's now 1-1 after 2 innings.

So Politi and German both pitched for Portland today. Politi got the start and was hit around. 2.1 IP, 4 H, 5 BB, 5 ER, 4 Ks. Politi has really struggled over the first month plus. 7.75 ERA, 1.69 WHIP
German came in and pitched 3 innings of relief from the 4th to the 6th. Did pretty good. One run on 3 hits (solo home run), 4 Ks, no walks. I’m assuming with the off day tomorrow and the rain out yesterday, they just wanted both guys to pitch today.

Nick Yorke hit his first career home run in Salem. He's been so bad to start the year ( understandable for a 19 yo getting his first taste of professional baseball) even his nuclear June couldn't get him over the .700 OPS 😅

Nick Yorke is now hitting .254/.338/.343, which is almost exactly league average. His strikeout % is 11th best in the league.
Starting to look like a solid season for a teenage second baseman.

Groome with a pretty good line today.
5.2IP 5H 3ER 4BB 8Ks
He seemed to get tired in the 5th and 6th innings - gave up a couple walks late and a wild pitch - but beared down overall. (The last earned run was given up by Brendan Nail in relief)
Hopefully, he can keep the K/IP high and get a cup of coffee in Portland later on this year.

Howlett struck out in his first 3 at bats today and then homers (#6 on the year) in his 4th.

Cam Cannon is riding a 13 game hitting streak dating back to June 5th. In that stretch, he is 20-60 (.333) with 5 2B and only 3 strikeouts.

When I saw him last week he saw a couple guys with good velocity (Tylor Megill and Sean Reid-Foley), and after getting beat overswinging in his second AB he made an adjustment. Didn't produce a hit (reached on a shortstop error that his speed forced) but it was good to see the conscious approach.

Didn't produce a hit (reached on a shortstop error that his speed forced) but it was good to see the conscious approach. That's great to see. Given the changes in his swing and his tendencies earlier in the season, he seemed like someone who would potentially be ripe for the sorts of micro-strategies and targeting on defense and in pitching that are so common in today's game. Obviously he could revert to his more slap-happy previous ways against strong infield shifts, but it's great to see him making adjustments with the new swing and maintaining power.

FCL starts the 28th, or Monday. I thought the minors were are quiet Mondays. Are rookie leagues the exception?

As outlined in the FCL/DSL thread, the FCL Red Sox are going to be off Sundays (whole league) and Wednesdays (teams have a second off-day, not all at once). The DSL Sox will be off Sundays and potentially Wednesdays. forum.soxprospects.com/thread/5800/2021-rookie-level-seasons-gclAlso, the Triple-A West has their off days on Wednesdays.
