Brandon Walter promoted to Greenville (via salem Twitter) It’ll be interesting to see his role in Greenville. Is he going to be developed as a starter? Bulk inning piggyback guy? Fast track him as a reliever? Greenville has a pretty deep rotation with Groome, Gambrell, BVB, Murphy, and Shugart.

One question..Are the FCL Red Sox ever going to do any hitting? Must be a boring team to watch.

Once Lawler gets there it will be better.
But yes, disappointing so far. Freddy was 1/2 today and SSS OPS above 890. My gut, without any facts, is that with the rookie leagues combined, a lot of older players are now in the FCL, so our 18 YO DSL players are overmatched.

So far 19.9 is the average age, compared to 19.5 in the 2019 GCL. We'll see what happens after the draft. Does say, a 4th round college bat get sent to the FCL?

I think you also have to attribute a lot of this to the pandemic as well. The last time Brainer Bonaci, for example, played a professional baseball game was 2019 in the DSL. That’s a long time ago and a totally different type of ball game. We don’t know exactly what these guys were doing in the meantime, especially the international crew. There’s bound to be a lot of rust to shake off.

Tomorrow's FCL game is postponed due to the tropical storm passing through.

Yes, that part will be interesting. That age is just the hitters, I think, right? The pitcher ages are 21.0 this year and 20.3 in 2019. But I'm actually stunned those numbers have only gone up that much with the loss of Short-Season. I'm admittedly not sure about other organizations, but looking at the Red Sox, they have a number of guys who are either repeating the level or legit were in Lowell all or most of 2019 (Flores, J. Diaz, Lucas, Suero, Larez). That they are still somehow only middle-of-the-pack in age for the league is baffling to me, but I note it's still early and only guys who've played are counting, which makes sense given the roster rules (the Nats' pitching staff's 23.3 average age appears to be skewed heavily by the rehabbing, 35yo Javy Guerra).

Countermove appears to be Scherff to Portland. Gun to my head I'd guess Adames to Worcester as that countermove.
