In AAA. Not in the low minors. Mookie started playing the OF in AA, Dalbec started playing 1st base in AA, Xander started playing 3rd base in AAA, and there's many other examples of top prospects being exposed to other positions in AA or AAA.

Betts and Bogaerts were put at different positions to get them ready to contribute in the majors in short order. Similarly, if Mayer gets to where he's near a callup and Bogaerts is entrenched, they might move him. They weren't being exposed to other positions for the sake of learning positions and getting everyone playing time, the Red Sox were trying to get them to fill specific, immediate holes. The point isn't that Mayer will never play another position, it's that they're not just going to slide him around the field at, like, Salem.
Dalbec wasn't that kind of prospect. Big, big difference between trying to get versatility out of a 4/4.5 prospect than a Mayer type.

I'm going to withhold judgement or guessing his position until the kid plays a single minor league game. I get the excitement everyone, but baby steps. If he is as special a talent with the stick as some of the scouts have gushed about, they'll find a place to play him if he's ready for the big time. I would like to thank the atrocity that we called the 2020 Red Sox for making this conversation even a possibility though. Robert Stock you're the real MVP...

Between Bleis, Chacon, Lira, Jhostnyxon, Rosario, Lyonell, Johnfrank Salazar, Liendo, Castro, and Ravelo there’s a ton of guys in the DSL to watch out for. That’s not even counting the pitchers. Probably going to be one of the most exciting DSL seasons in awhile with essentially two international classes rolled into one. that and it should be a loaded FCL team next year.

Joe Davis up to Greenville, Ricardo Cubillan and Tyreque Reed to Portland. Davis and reed were long over due. Congrats to both! Between them they must have close to a hundred RBI’s this year.

Jeter Downs is having a tough season It’s been up and down. He’s in one of the down swings now. Overall I’m not too concerned about it. Looked good in the futures game at least so it hasn’t been ALL bad lately

Koss is en fuego. 3-5 today
25-53 in July if I’m doing my calculations right
Chris Murphy with another quality start, but a couple more homers
Scoreless inning for Adames in Worcester
Good start from German in Portland. Dominant 2 inning outing from Scherff. 3 k’s, 3 Gb, no baserunners
Homers for Ronaldo and Granberg. Those two seem to be hitting lately
Yorke had a double and 2 RBI

Beside being a line drives hitting cyborg who draws lots of walks, Nick Yorke has the "getting hit by a pitch" skill too.

Quite a run of Rule 5 picks the last couple years. Whitlock is obviously at the MLB level and amazing, but I can't remember a two-year stretch of minor league picks contributing like Espinal, Adames, Ort, and Reed.

Looked good in the futures game at least so it hasn’t been ALL bad lately I think downs has a good future ahead of him but in the right deal for a guy with maybe 2 years or so of control left can be had for downs I wouldn't be upset with dealing him.

I guess I probably swapped him with Espada in my brain at some point in the spring. Carry on!
