Honest question, because I see a lot of "Sale is better than picking up XYZ in a trade". Im less confident than others it seems to pencil him in as an ace who can pitch deep enough into games after a fast-tracked recovery from career-threatening injury.
Counter being he seems to be pitching great tonight, and any ERA below 4 puts him at the top of the rotation.

OMG, wait until you see the Tate Matheny highlight of his catch in CF to rob Kevin Smith (decent Blue Jays prospect). Sale getting hit kind of hard in the 4th.
WooSox twitter all over it.

The team should be happy if he can give you five solid innings.

Sale coming back in August is not a fast-tracked recovery after surgery 15+ months earlier. It was conservative, as it should be.

Wow how often does a player steal a home run and then hit one the next inning? I've been watching baseball for 40+ years and I see something new all the time.

Sure, but if he gets 75 or more pitches today, why not have his next start be for Boston. They've been adding 15 pitches per start. That means he would get 90 next start. That's so close to the 95-100 pitch limit they usually run these guys out for, it seems academic. ADDED: He got 81. It seems nuts not to start him for Boston 5 days from now.

I think the issue is stressful pitches, more than number of pitches. How will he respond to a 30 pitch 2nd inning? Or pitching to Aaron Judge in the 4th inning with the bases loaded after a couple walks? And then how does he feel the next day? And how does he pitch in his next start?

The idea isn’t seeing that Sale can throw one game at 80 pitches and then he’s good. The idea is seeing if he can throw multiple games at high pitch count, high intensity and then still feel good. No use in rushing him back only for his arm to fall apart.

Holy crap, Jeter Downs crushed a HR to LF in a Manny-esque style. That's 2 in 2 days. Maybe he's snapping out of his slump. Or maybe he's more comfortable after getting past the trading deadline.

Ronaldo Hernandez hit HR number 10. Was slashing .333/.391/.571/.963 in July before today. I say we lock him in Varitek’s basement over the offseason and don’t let him out until he can catch a game properly. The bat is still there.

At least so far. But he doesn't need that 3rd pitch -

It's awesome that Blaze is shredding FCL pitching but it's probably worth keeping in the back of our minds that he has to hit, because most of the value will come from his bat as a pure RHH 1B/DH

Don’t give up on Downs yet Id be more worried about casas kids carrying tool was suppose to be power and as a 1b only prospect he has 6hrs in AA. Downs has shown the ability to steal bases, flash power and play multiple positions. A couple minor adjustments and he will be a fan favorite.

2 things.
1) Darel Belen is huge
2) Darel Belen’s first AB in Salem was an absolute bomb of a HR

I guess I misheard that. It's way more exciting to me that his hit tool has been better than expected. The power will easily come later. That's why he's ranked so highly nationally as well as here DESPITE the lack of home runs.

Hopefully him and downs hit their ceiling and were looking at a casas, downs, xander, devers infield that makes me giddy.
