Pretty nice little win. Another loss or two might have been more than some here could take. Glad everyone can step away from the ledge.

It's amazing what a well pitched game can do. It would have been more ideal for the pen had ERod gone more than 5 innings.
The offense was still annoying. If they don't hit a HR they can't score. They have to stop failing to score with runners on 3b and less than 2 outs. That will kill them on close games and when they're not hitting homers.
But a win is a win. Hopefully they can turn this into a winning streak.

Important good 5 innings from E Rod. Ump squeezed him a lot and made him throw more pitches than he should have, but he gutted through it. Kuddos

I'll take it. A few too many pitches but was getting a lot of swings and misses on his 92-93 mph heater, so it appears he's got his movement back. I don't think we've seen him up to 95 post-covid/myocarditis but he's got two more months to try.

Through much of the first half of the season they were all about luck. They seemed to be able to drive in runs at will, even with 2 outs. But there's always regression so that hasn't been happening anywhere near as much. I expect that will change again at some point. As for the HRs being the primary means of scoring, that is the way of the baseball world these days.

When the staff gives up 1 run that is a BIG victory for all.

The 2013 Cardinals were one of the best teams when it came to clutch hitting over the course of the season, but they couldnt buy a clutch hit during the World Series. Still doesn't stop me from cringing when they fail to get the run home when a runner is on 3b with less than 2 outs. That's ingrained in me.

Rotation: Sale Eo E-Rod HouckPivetta I'd always prefer to use a good P as a starter, rather than as a reliever. Whitlock is a nice luxury to have in the pen, but I don't think we need him and Houck in that role. We should have enough in the BP with Barnes, Otto, Taylor, Sawamura and Whitlock for high-lev and Rios, Robles and Valdez for lower-leverage roles. I'd still like to see them call up Durbin Feltman and see whether he can pitch his way into the circle of trust. I don’t see any scenario that does not have Sale and Houck in the rotation going forward. I totally agree with this: Sale Eovaldi Houck Pivetta E-Rod (assuming he will agree to a 2 to 3 year reasonably priced contract) Richards do not exercise option if he finishes the year. Pérez exercise and trade as the contract is very reasonable. Side note: Seabold tonight: IN 6 - H 1 - R 0 - ER 0 - BB 1 - SO 10

Time to rattle off a double digit win streak After all the doom and gloom in the past few days, I'm surprised to see we stand all of ONE game out of first place.

Tomorrow it's Martín vs. their hot-shot southpaw pitching prospect who FG has ranked higher than Mize. We got this.

5 game losing streaks are hard to take, but they will win tonight. I am on the record, OK ??!?!?!?!?!?!? Very good that they are still only 1 game back despite the skid. Every team (except the 2018 club) goes through this stuff. Just gotta keep battling and the posters need to stop whinin' and nut up. If they don't win tonight I will personally dive down to the bottom of the ocean and retrieve CDJ's phone. shelve the SCUBA gear.......for now.

Noted and deleted. Except consider that Schwarber had a significant hammy strain. Working at first could exacerbate that if he decides to stretch for a ball or a throw. Yeah, that's maybe the only caveat to reduce injury risk there. In the end, from a physiological point of view your body can't tell the difference between 1B and OF when you're extending, flexing, supinating, pronating, or rotating a joint which makes 1B much safer. I think the "stretch" can mitigated through experience, practice, and lots of stretching, in time he should know his limits. I almost want to tell him "don't stretch" lol. Hopefully Xander and Devers can help him out by making great plays throws.

Is it terrible of me that I'm disappointed that Marwin is healthy again?
At least Perez gets the A-team defense.

Gonna need the A-team defense because the Tigers are going all righty and I expect some rockets

Anybody know Arroyo's status? When is he expected back? I do kind of miss his bat and good defense and good attitude.

Same goes for the Tigers as their pitcher has been known to give up HRs as well. I like our odds in a dinger-off, if that's the case: their lineup has 83 homers combined and ours has 120.
