Listen, I know we're all just emoting here, which is fine, but it is not a fact that "the Sox are done." You just have to look at the standings and see that the Red Sox are obviously in a better position than either the Yankees or the Blue Jays.
I realize that the idea that the team is "done" is based on this abiding metaphysical belief that teams have souls which reveal themselves in disclosive moments, and the Red Sox have revealed that they're "really" not a playoff-caliber team, but I reject that whole logic. In any event it's very far from a statement of fact.
This made me laugh. I think most folks can’t get beyond their own recency bias. Even for people who have been watching sports for 40 years, there’s this firm belief that a team in a hitting slump will keep slumping the rest of the year, a team that’s losing will continue to lose.

This team is one injury away from falling off a cliff.

If Grichuk GIDPs here, AC should get a Macarthur fellowship.

Can't say I agree with the decision to remove Houck.
Edit: Of course......

Marwin is not even a worth a AAA slot. I've said it before but I can't understand how AC is using him. He would be useful as a UT guy with spot starts vs. LHP. But they haven't done that and I'm completely flabbergasted by it.
Yes, they're in a tough spot with covid and other injuries right now but it's been like this all year with the same results all year.

Cora is killing it today when it comes to taking effective SPs out of the game.

Clearly over managing now with Houck for Taylor. Houck is so much better.

Two games in a row where Houck is charged with a run while sitting in the dugout.

Last 4 starts for Houck, no runs while in the ballgame.

Everybody just relax. We have Richards going tomorrow... What will be higher: Red Sox batters strikeouts vs Richards hits allowed?

The fact that AC went to the BP this early shows they need this game bad.

In his brief SSS career, Valera has a .557 OPS vs. RH and a .755 OPS vs. LH. No need to take Houck there.

This made me laugh. I think most folks can’t get beyond their own recency bias. Even for people who have been watching sports for 40 years, there’s this firm belief that a team in a hitting slump will keep slumping the rest of the year, a team that’s losing will continue to lose. Since July 1 is a pretty long slump. Why is it "since July 1"? They scored 15 runs on 7/1, so let's leave that out. They then went on to score 76 runs in the next 16 games, which is 4.75/game. Seems fine.
Since 7/24, though, it's under 3/game. That's definitely a slump!
ADD: Oh, maybe you were just talking about their win/loss record, not hitting specifically. In that case date it to July 6th.
Unrelatedly, Dave O'Brien, a dumb person, is very confused about why they took Houck out of the game, despite Houck's pattern of falling aprt in the 4th inning and the team's use being obviously cognizant of that fact. You can disagree with that decision, but you have to not be paying attention to not get Cora's reason for making that move.

I am going to remain calm, but I will say this: Franchy Cordero sucks. Go ahead, tell me how good he’s been for a few weeks… but he is the same guy. Close the eyes, let fly. He will always be easy to pitch to.
