Does anyone know when was the last time the Sox got shut out in both ends of a doubleheader? Wouldn't count if they are here because of 7 inning games. They shouldn't even count in the standings.

Berios: 8 straight scoreless inning since becoming a Blue Jay. Red Sox bats: 13 straight scoreless innings vs. Blue Jays. Something's gotta give... In order for these two trends to continue, nothing has to give.

Watching that replay of Robles gives me Julian Tavarez vibes. A pitcher who starts a fight that has bench guys thinking “do I *have* to protect this guy?”

Sale could come back and be lights out. Unless the offense remembers to hit, what gets better? I'm far more concerned with dead bats than dead arms at the moment

Sale lifted with two outs in the 5th after 89 pitches.

They should DFA Richards and Perez immediately, put Sale and Houck first in line to keep their place and Seabold waiting next in line. I wouldn't even mind seeing Whitlock stretched out to see if he can be a starter.
Call up Casas in September and ride his bat to the end. Keep Franchy at 1B until then. Not that Jeter Downs has earned it, but him too at 2B. Make sure Duran plays every game here on out.
What a disappointment this season has become.

A pitcher who starts a fight that has bench guys thinking “do I *have* to protect this guy?” It's unfortunate that the trade ddeadline discussion got bogged down in a nonsensical claim that Bloom "didn't do anything" at the deadline which was totally immune to obvious facts, because the better critique would be that his bullpen additions were extremely weird.

No need to panic. The Sox are done. The ideal outcome would be for them to lose every game for the rest of the season with the exception of beating the Yankees. The most amazing thing about the team's early success is they did it with not one player on the team having a big year and with most players having down or outright bad years. And yet somehow they kept winning when they had no right to. This was always a sub .500 team. The focus was always on next year. Goals were to sell at the deadline and reset the cap. I have bolded the only true statement in this comment. Fixed

If you think the season is a bust, it seems all the more reason *not* to call up prospects who aren’t on the 40-man or stretch Whitlock. To what end? Why risk the latter’s health or start the clock. I’m fine with letting Duran ride, even though he has not looked great.

So far everything that’s happened since the deadline basically vindicated that Bloom made the right moves at the deadline.
It was smart to get Schwarber without giving up too much. They still have a shot at a wildcard. But they absolutely should not have gone all in.
Sucks to lose Aldo but it’s not really Bloom’s fault that there were no other options and Bobby D didn’t come through.

I have bolded the only true statement in this comment. Fixed Listen, I know we're all just emoting here, which is fine, but it is not a fact that "the Sox are done." You just have to look at the standings and see that the Red Sox are obviously in a better position than either the Yankees or the Blue Jays.
I realize that the idea that the team is "done" is based on this abiding metaphysical belief that teams have souls which reveal themselves in disclosive moments, and the Red Sox have revealed that they're "really" not a playoff-caliber team, but I reject that whole logic. In any event it's very far from a statement of fact.

Hey, if it makes folks feel better: Rizzo and Gallo were 0-7, 4 Ks.

Getting 4+ years of Big Fudge for 4+ years of Chavis makes sense as a developmental play.
Sending Scherff out for a rental of Robles is a bit of a head-scratcher. Chaim must not see much in Scherff or he thinks Robles can really contribute down the stretch.

Good job by Renfroe there, that clears the pitcher's Marwin's spot for the next inning.
