The starter for the DSL Athletics in game 1 has only pitched 4.1 innings this season, but has walked 15 guys...

Yes, let’s give at bats to Cuba Bess instead of Mayer They're easing him in. They do it with everyone. It's not like he's getting the day off. He's certainly there, working out, etc. Game reps are not the only way to get better, especially early in a player's career when he's adjusting to pro ball.

Doesn’t mean I agree with it.

At Tonite's Sea Dog game... Victor Santos starting for Dogs....23 pitches in first inning....line out, ground out, line single, BB, ground out on excuse me swing. Santos was 93 with FB, 83 with slider.

If they can get Santos to sit 93 they may have a back end guy Santos still in...has gone to more off speed. FB 91 some at 92 in 5th. Sox lead 3-1 scoring 2 on bases loaded error. Casas has a wall scraper double to left and a hard GB single b/t first and second plus a walk. Baldwin hit a rocket shot 2/3 up left field wall...missed the exit velo but it was up there. Rosario had a LD double to RF corner with 100 EV.

Uberstine with a perfect inning with a strikeout for his debut Let me guess, his mom's name was Cristine and his father was a driver.

A few other thoughts on Sea Dogs as my phone died late.
Reed is a B-E-A-S-T. Wiki has a picture of him under the definition of slugger.
Hernandez and Baldwin are other lineup hulks. Hernandez tho was fed a heavy diet of low, outside breaking balls to great effect. His rep must have preceded him.
Fitzgerald had surprising pop as he lined an oppo double halfway up the left field wall.
Granberg is a charter member of The Beard. He didn't do much tonight but his confident, relaxed demeanor suggests he knows he belongs.
Rio Gomez was 91 with the FB and low 80s with breaking stuff. He had trouble locating tonight...only 1 walk but often long in counts...otherwise I would have put him in the crafty lefty column. From my vantage point behind the plate, it appeared his breaking ball had sharp bite and he threw a tailing FB to righties. Both pitches had discernable movement.
Thomas popped 94-95 but did not generate swings/misses. There was some loud contact...so maybe he is on the straight side.

Yes, let’s give at bats to Cuba Bess instead of Mayer I mean, they should be giving Bess Plate Appearances, too. He was an interesting college player who got hurt. One of the more intriguing post-draft signees last season. He's probably not going to amount to anything, but there's only one way to tell if he a future. He's old enough though that he'd have to move up fast and the system is loaded with 1B above him. He needs a chance to play so he and the organization can figure out if he has a shot at being anything. Mayer is gonna be playing full-time next year. Bess might not depending on how he does.

Uberstine with a perfect inning with a strikeout for his debut Let me guess, his mom's name was Cristine and his father was a driver. Quite funny! Tongue in cheek. In all seriousness his dad I believe is Gary Uberstine, who is the founder of Premier Sports & Entertainment, who has represented the likes of Pete Carroll and Steve Sarkisian among others. I’d say he probably has good representation. I wish the kid well as he has a pretty neat back story in the way that he has chased his dream. From USC intramural team, to the USC baseball team, to Northwestern then finally to the MLB Draft league, he’s definitely given max effort to get a chance.

I wonder if my colleges club team ran into him. We played the kid the Astros drafted from ECU club pretty frequently when I was there. As you may imagine he was the best pitcher we faced lol. They were almost always the best team nationwide
Always love those stories of kids grinding to realize their potential. Good for Uberstine
