Why have Shaw? If you are going to have a bad 1b, it may as well be Dalbec, who has good streaks and *might* be part of the future. Shaw is a temporary fix who fixes nothing. Only thing I can think of is defense but even then…he didn’t make that play last inning (in fairness it was tough but if you aren’t going to hit…) I’m no Danny Santana fan, but if he’s healthy I’d activate him and DFA Shaw; I’ve seen enough.

No matter how you slice it, and I blame Barnes first, the failure to hit also plays big here. Six hits in nine innings loses more games than it wins.

The pen got wrecked by the sticky enforcement. At this point, Ottavino and Taylor both look like back of the roster guys that should be floating from team to team on waivers. Despite the bad results, Barnes still looks like a solid 8th inning guy to me, just not the best reliever in baseball he was for a few months.

Right now, I love to watch only three of our dudes pitch - Eovaldi, Houck and Whitlock. All work fast, throw hard, and typically get the job done. Beyond that.... ?? Whoops - edited to add Chris Sale - he was gone for so long, but he is so fun to watch!

No, he can't pitch back-to-back days. Are they winning back to back days anymore? No, but if they have any desire to make the playoffs they'll need to, and if they're not going to, then what difference does it make who closes?

Shaw looked so, so slow there.

That is really deflating. But - even Texas seems to know how to hit situationally better than we do. And...Shaw.
Can it get any worse?

Heart of the order with a man on second. There is a test there. Lose that test and there is not much left to hope on.

Does anybody have much faith that the Sox can score in the bottom of the 10th with a runner on 2b and no outs and the middle of the order up?

First it was the starters who went in the tank. Then it was the hitters. Then it was the bullpen. And now, for the full team effort, it's the defense.
Too bad this wasn't another two-month covid year -- we probably would've won the WS.

It helps that Dennis Santana is no Mariano Rivera.
Runner on third with one out, Bogaerts is the guy I want up.
