As a UConn fan I’m all for Crawford but the idea of “generational makeup” sounds silly to me. That’s clearly coming from the agent lol Slap an 80 on his interviewing skills.

Reggie Crawford at 24 plz Found it very interesting to see Crawford enter his name in the transfer portal. It's likely an insurance play, and I really don't see him falling out of the top 50, but if he fails a physical, and returns to college, he might get a stupid big NIL deal from an SEC school to recoup potential lost bonus.

Would very much like him to still be there Mookie Betts 2.0 He's one of a couple HS'ers I really like at 24. Cole Young and Dylan Lesko are the others. Young is not very realistic but Lesko could be there. The write-up seems similar to their last mock. Seems like mock drafts are coming out every other day now. Even the publications are getting antsy for the draft to get here.

Generational makeup on a New England kid sounds like someone hijacked an incoming Gammons quote.

Just pointing out that Snelling and Lesko would be available by the time the Sox are picking in this mock.

I could easily see him falling out of the top 50, and I could see him signing anyways then. But yeah, makes a lot of sense to do for negotiating power alone. I wonder if NIL concerns will prompt an increase in the signing bonus budgets at any point. I'm not sure they will just because from an economic sense alone it probably makes sense to start a professional career sooner rather than later, but it's an interesting question.

I can’t wait, the other teams drafts were so lame, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins. Snooze fest.

I’m telling you the SOX better have some eyes on this one. He was ranked 79 and shooting up the draft board. I’m pretty sure Connor Prielipp won’t be there. Between Rocker and Crawford. Crawford is a lefty. I bet you Rocker has a deal with some team .

NIL Money and baseball is not as realistic as people think I would say almost nobody is getting 100k, and maybe 2-5 guys get over that but less than 150k.... Baseball is far far behind basketball and football here

I think Crawford will fall to the 3rd. If you take an older player with little leverage in contract negotiation like Melton in the first couple picks, your chances of affording someone like Crawford in the 3rd would definitely increase.

Melton will be comparatively cheaper because he's one year older, but he's a old junior not a senior. So he does still have eligibility left if he wants to go back. But yeah, depending on where he gets picked he's a candidate for some savings.

Is there no chance that the Sox take Lesko if he's there at 24? Could he be there at 24?

That's a nice writeup on Jett Williams. Am I gonna feel bad if I start rooting for us to nab him?

Scattered thoughts on this: 1) It's frustratingly bad writing the way Law intentionally overstates the wackiness of some hitters in this class for comedic effect. He says that Daniel Susac has an interpretive dance routine (true and funny!) before a big step forwards and big step back (not something that I saw or would have stated this way). video for reference: 2) Totally with Law on Jacob Berry being rated too high. No position and the bat speed isn't elite so he doesn't actually hit balls as hard as you'd expect. The eye and contact skills are superlative though. 3) I think it's premature to just say that DeLauter will end up in a corner. He's a big guy, but he's quite athletic and seems a better candidate for it than Beck, who Law implied could be a future CF. 4) It's might be an overstatement that Hjerpe would be the most cross body starter in recent memory (Johnny Cueto?) but regardless that word starter in there is doing significant work. Josh Hader runs a more extreme if anything version of the same delivery. 56 I feel like is low for Hjerpe and I'm not as much of a believer as some. 5) Honest question: Law repeatedly alludes to a 5 day schedule and not a 7 day potentially lowering velo. In a vacuum, the argument makes sense but considering the totality of circumstances when becoming a pro, I'd find it hard to believe that statistically very many college pitchers see an average decrease in fastball velocity. 6) I don't like the way he repeatedly says "the history on players that tall isn't great." I feel like if anything, we've been seeing that the traditional wisdom on height / size for pitchers and hitters may have been wrong. I have other thoughts, but I don't even know that I disagree with his eval of someone like Cayden Wallace, just that I'm not sure why that lands him in the 70s.

I think that Eric Longenhagen and/or Kiley McDaniel have said some teams feel better than ever that they can help pitchers throw harder with all the analytics tools they employ. Just anecdotally not hard evidence but you do hear each year of a few guys that start throwing harder in pro ball. Guys like George Kirby for example.
