I'll send him down as soon as Santana is ready.

The Red Sox aren't doing themselves any favor by keeping Duran in the ML club. His trade value is plummeting. I think he goes back down when everyone is back on the roster (Renfroe, Hernandez, Arroyo), but with those guys out, he kind of needs to be on the roster. Swap him out for Rosario as soon as there are enough OFs. Better defense off the bench, no need for the bat.

With Rosario you'll at least get some walks

Nice work by Espinal -- they may well ask him for another inning. Now let's score some runs.

What does it say about the state of our offense when we most look forward to Bobby D's at bats?

What does it say about the state of our offense when we most look forward to Bobby D's at bats? Since the start of August among batters with at least 50 PA, Bobby D is second in MLB in wRC+.

What does it say about the state of our offense when we most look forward to Bobby D's at bats? I really like seeing him fouling off high fastballs and pitches off the plate outside on top of the loud contact

Devers just can’t keep making mental mistakes like that. He is perennially at the top of his position for errors and it is a real problem that makes me hesitate on wanting to extend him. I want to go on the record as not hesitating for a second to lock him up for infinity years at infinity million dollars

13 of Franco's 32 RBIs are against the Red Sox.
13 RBIs in 41 ABs vs. the Sox.

whelp - would have to call this a pretty uninspired effort overall in a really big game. Tampa is mighty impressive - with the bat, glove and arms. Relentless. We - not so much.

Sox 3/9 on hard hit balls. Rays 3/4. This game sucks Sox finish 4/13 and Rays 5/6. Small mistakes always seem to flare up against the Rays specifically, and they are making too many as is

we’re playing as tho we are missing 2-3 of our starting position players… is everyone forgetting this?

How does this team clean up the sloppy baserunning, loose defense and poor hitting with RISP? Not to mention erratic starters and a burned out, shaky pen. We may make the playoffs, but I can't see this version of the team going very far. Losses to COVID just make things worse. Cora certainly has a lot to deal with.

I wonder how many of the position players are hitting a wall after a shortened season last year? Especially Bogaerts and Devers who haven’t had much time off. One advantage of the Yankees’ covid woes is that most of their team has gotten some time off. That and the fact our we had 4 players go to the all-star game.

The good Pivetta, the one with command, might be critical to this whole series. A no show but Cora didn't burn up the pen.

So - no Kiké, Arroyo, Taylor, Barnes, Perez. COVID is hitting the team hard. Who's next? What a mess.
