They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). Three one-run games vs. CHW but a series loss, the second straight, and 5th loss in 7 games. Need to regroup in the Emerald City. Opportunity for ERod to bounce back from a clunker and finish the season strong.

Really would like to see us take the first 2, as afternoon west coast getaway games always seem to have less than stellar lineups - though in this case, we do have an off day Thursday. If we do claim the first 2, let's put the pedal to the metal in game 3. Really need a very good case to rest any regulars when there is already an off day looming.
Need to get X (37 XBH Apr-Jun, only 16 XBH Jul-Sep) and Devers (1 XBH in Sept.) going - can't have these next 3 weeks be like the last 3 weeks.

Checking on the stats for Abraham Toro, who had HRs in his last two games for Houston and his first two for the Mariners. Only 2 more hrs for Seattle, and .297.371..400.771. Not bad for 2b.

Gilbert is the Rodriguez of the Mariners: 4.02 xERA, 3.70 FIP, 4.05 xFIP... 5.10 ERA.
Young pitcher they haven't seen before + jet lag is not the best formula for this team.

The Sox really need to win 2 of 3 in this series. I am concerned that it goes the other way. The West Coast has always been a tough place for the Red Sox to play.

Two wins would be better than one, but I don't see what makes this a make or break series in particular. As it is the Red Sox have the easiest schedule of the wild card competitors going forward and the gap only opens up after the Seattle series.
Or to put it another way: this is probably the most difficult remaining series on the schedule (partially for time zone reasons). I think they can recover from winning 1 of 3 if it comes to that.
(Also before the last Rays game you predicted they'd go 2-5 in their next 7 games and they're already 2-2; if they go 1-2 in Seattle they'll be ahead of your own benchmark!)

But his first half numbers are much better. Fatigue? Gonzalez is their one reliable veteran in these games, but he’s certainly no Eovaldi. The Sox *should* field the much better team every game. Just need luck to be even.

Gilbert has been unlucky, but not as unlucky as ERod. Player | wOBA | xwOBA | Gilbert | .319 | .307 | ERod | .337 | .293 |

If JD is unavailable, I'd like to see Schwarber at DH and Shaw or Iglesias at 2B.
Schwarber in LF is not their best lineup

Twins are pathetic. Had a 5-0 lead. In fairness, Gardner was struck out before Judge's game tying 3 run job.

The Jays also have seven games left with the Twins. But also six with the Rays.

The Jays also have seven games left with the Twins. But also six with the Rays. The Rays have a big enough lead over all AL contenders that they may soon take their foot off the gas to prepare for the post-season. This could certainly benefit the Jays....

It benefits the Yankees more than the Jays. The Rays still want to establish the best record in the league for home field advantage throughout the playoffs. They have about a 5 game margin (thereabouts) over the Astros and White Sox, so they'll be trying, but their last 3 games of the season are against NY. By then they should have the division and the best record in the league all wrapped up so that the Yankees get the benefit of what amounts to spring training games against the Rays to end the season. The Jays will get 6 games against the Rays where they're all in. I'd guess they split those 6 games as the Jays are almost as good as the Rays talentwise if not better.

Yankees win and Jays are winning big. The pressure's on the Red Sox to win and keep pace tonight. If not they drop into 4th place by a percentage point. Tonight's game becomes huge. No Whitlock in the pen tonight. Hope E-Rod is on top of his game tonight. Don't want to see another game where his FIP is fine but it doesn't match what the runs that actually do cross the plate. Want to see his FIP and his actual ERA say that he was great tonight. Hopefully the offense explodes and gives the bullpen a ton of cushion.

Agreed, even more than the 7-2 lead the Red Sox had in the second game in Chicago would be nice. That said the defensive alignment looks much better tonight.

Let's crush this pretender team with the -47 run differential. They stink and shouldn't be anywhere near the WC race.
