This wouldn't bother me one bit...

Their lease runs through 2024. Not impossible they could move sooner but it'd be a lot easier after that.

LOL to the thread title unless they plan to move the entire city.
The one good thought I have about Salem has been A++ announcers over the years.

Me reading through the lines on the "100% in Salem in 2022" comment is that Salem is certainly exploring a move in 2025, that likely is what got leaked out, the telephone game changed it to "moving in 2022", and the GM was able to respond truthfully to the question with a "no".
The reporter likely didn't know the lease ends in 2024 and probably missed the chance to ask the obvious follow up on 2025.

I'd be stunned if they don't move out of Salem as soon as they are able. They currently have teams in tourist destinations in Greenville and Portland and what some are calling the best minor league park in existence in Worcester. What they have in Salem doesn't stack up. Locating a team in a tourist destination gets hardcore fans taking vacations there but more importantly avails the team to more potential ticket buyers who happen to be on vacation and looking for something to do with their disposable funds. If I'm the Sox, I'm gunning for the Charleston, SC franchise.

As for Salem, it's not as simple as changing affiliations with a team in a new city. They own the team so they have to sell it or find a new city for relocation that has or is willing to build a suitable facility.

While Greenville may not have the attractions such as Charleston or Myrtle Beach, it is a great city to visit. It has a bustling downtown, Falls Park, wide selection of gourmet restaurants, hiking and biking trails, to say nothing of its beautiful ball park in the West End. I've made trips there on three occasions and will probably go again.

Now I'm curious about West Virginis , Salem and history.
Chris would likely know. Are there remaining issues between the McCoys and Hatfields ?

While I live in Portland ME I can attest that Greenville has much to offer and is a great place to visit and catch a ball game. Ashville is just an hour away. Great food, people and the City is very walkable. Great for biking too.

I can definitely attest that Greenville is a wonderful place to visit and spend a few days enjoying the downtown experience, excellent cuisine, and welcoming folks.

Do you know if there still are issues ? Just curious, that was pretty famous.

Well aware of the Hatfield-McCoy thing. It was an 1800s thing. Was a whole miniseries with, I think, Kevin Costner recently as well.
Easy enough mistake on Salem, which is over in the Roanoke region.

My aunt and uncle retired there. It's pretty amazing for a place most people have never heard of.
No to me knowing how teams will be changing minor league cities in the new system. If it's simply a matter of selling your franchise and buying another, then I'm even more confident that they'll move from Salem, VA to Charleston, SC. The Charleston club is owned by TB, so all you have to do is settle on the amount needed to pay them to swap cities.

It was also the basis for the 60's sitcom "The Real McCoys" starring Walter Brennan, Richard Crenna, Kathleen Nolan AND Michael Winkelman (close). It's where Crenna got his start in the industry.

Charleston is not owned by TB. They belong to the Goldklang Group - a long-time owner of affiliiated, independent and even collegiate baseball league teams.

If I'm the Sox, I'm gunning for the Charleston, SC franchise. While Salem itself may not be a tourist destination, it is right outside Roanoke, which is gets tourism, particularly from visitors of the Blue Ridge Mountains and also happens to be a larger city than Greenville. It's also only about 45 minutes from Smith Mountain Lake, which is a big tourist attraction from the Mid-Atlantic/Carolinas regions, i.e., DC, VA, NC, MD (people regularly come from NY and NJ as well). As a regular visitor of SML, I would say the team is pretty popular in that area, but they aren'tselling out games or anything. The park they play in seems pretty nice.

Note that the PDLs are 10 years now, not 2, so you're not going to see the trading that used to happen.
FSG owns Salem, so the discussion, as I read it, is whether FSG is going to move the Salem franchise, not whether the Red Sox are going to change affiliates. If they want to sell Salem, as mentioned, they're essentially going to have to find another org to trade affiliates with, and if an org has a desirable affiliate, what's the incentive to trade?

Greenville is next-level good for visiting. We go there for soccer a few times a year and no matter what month, it's a delight.
Personally, I'd like to see Salem relocate to Wilmington, NC, which is also a premiere destination.
