They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Last night I came on here and ran my mouth about how the O's were about to beat the MFY and ended up going to bed dejected. I stayed off tonight when the O's tied it and: O'S WIN, O'S WIN! They just walked it off.
Giddy! With so few games left and the race so tight, nobody can afford a loss to the O's.
We have to destroy them three in a row.

I listened to last two innings on O’svradio on my app. Blacked out. We all hate guy at stadium urging everyone to stand up and yell. Right before winning hit. She got a chuckle because guy standing urging O’s fans to stand up was wearing a Sawx jersey! 🤟😂😯

THEEEEE YANKEES LOSE!!!!! Every time I see this I watch it at least three times. Agreed. It’s truly an amazing clip...right down to Arod’s uncomfortable laugh at the end.

3 left handlers. All look horrible. Only 3 wins is acceptable

Yankees finish the season 11-8 against BALT. And it could have been worse. Let's hope that is a true barometer of the Yankee team.

When making projections normally you do conservative and conservative says 2 of 3 against Baltimore at home, but my gosh, there is no reason the Sox can't sweep these 3 games. It's totally laid out for them. You'd hope that if the Sox pitching/defense struggles badly in a game that they can score enough runs to offset it given the AAA pitching they're facing. If the Sox were to sweep any series remaining on their schedule this would be the one (although I'd enjoy a sweep of the Yankees more ).

Yeah, this is the rare series where it is completely reasonable to be disappointed winning 2 out of 3.

Fangraphs odds imply they should win 1.97 games in this series. (I will also be disappointed if they don't sweep. But it's more likely than not that they won't sweep.)
Add: In series against the Red Sox, Jays, and Yankees, the Orioles have won at least one game 11 out of 14 times. Two of the three sweeps were by the Red Sox. The Yankees never swept them. The Rays, meanwhile, have gone 18-1 against Baltimore, with 5 series sweeps.

If I'm Alex Cora, I'm worried about this series because it comes at a treacherous time in the season: right after an extremely difficult stretch of 19 games -- 10 against division leaders, 13 on the road -- amidst a COVID outbreak on the team, and shortly before a crucial series with the Yankees. Somehow the team went 10-9 during this period. How easy will it be to have a let-down after the Seattle wins? How tempting to look ahead?
Further, I'm guessing that the team arrived in the wee hours of Thursday morning and facing a three-hour time change. In my experience of this kind of situation, the second day after arrival (i.e. today) is usually the toughest. How many players tonight will be in a mental fog? On top of this, the Sox have a habit of making struggling pitchers look good, and the Orioles can make their season by playing well against contending teams down the stretch.
I like this team and trust its professionalism, but these games could be much tougher than many of you expect.

Duran and Arroyo to start rehabbing with the Woo Sox. The big boys are starting to recover and reassemble.

Expecting a sweep is a setup for disappointment. The Orioles are not 0-146.

Yankees finish the season 11-8 against BALT. And it could have been worse. Let's hope that is a true barometer of the Yankee team. Since the 0-3 start to 2021 against the Oriels, the Red Sox are 9-1.......!!! ......so the Oriels are not 0-10 against the Red Sox since the first series of the season, they are 1-9. (No they are not 0-146, but 2-27 against Tampa and the Red Sox must feel like 0-143, since their first series).

This Red Sox 2021 team has almost never made games “easy”, but they have won consistently enough to be in the playoff picture.

Expecting a sweep is a setup for disappointment. The Orioles are not 0-146. It's more of expecting 2 of 3 and hoping if there is ever a time where a sweep could most likely occur would be when they're the home team facing 3 guys with ERAs around 7.5 or more.

I'm hoping Sale does NOT pitch tonight. If he did he'd be lined up to pitch Wed against the Mets, and Pivetta would pitch against the Yankees on Friday.
Why not switch them? Have Pivetta go tonight and insert Sale into the rotation on Saturday. That way he is lined up to pitch on Friday against the Yankees and on the final Thursday against the Nats and would have 4 days rest for a Tuesday Wild Card game on 10/5. The Sox need to make it so that it's Sale/E-Rod/Eovaldi going against the Yankees next weekend, and also have it so Eovaldi is a possibility to start/relieve (or Sale) for the Wild Card game.

It'd be Sale/Pivetta/Eovaldi against Baltimore, then Rodriguez/Houck against the Mets, then Sale/Pivetta/Eovaldi against the Yankees, no?

Cora said Houck will be available out of the bullpen, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t make a spot start. (Sorry for double negative...Sale, Eovaldi, Rodriguez, and Pivetta will be in the rotation, Houck or someone would be needed for a spot start).

He'd be on 6 days of rest instead of 5 and E-Rod is lined up before Eovaldi isn't he? I mean E-Rod is pitching on Sunday and Eovaldi would pitch against the Mets and miss the Yankees series I think? I'd hate to think that Eovaldi doesn't get into the Sox/Yanks series over Pivetta. I'd rather see Pivetta against the Mets than the Yankees. But it's a moot point. Sale is pitching tonight.
