Would have been nice to have him for the Yankees series, but at least they'll have Houck in the bullpen for that one. But he would make it back for the Washington series, if he returns as soon as he's eligible. Maybe a break before the playoffs, and coming back just in time for a last regular season tune-up, would not be the worst thing.

Both Houck and a healthy Whitlock in the pen for the playoffs would be ideal.

Going at it glass-half-full and thinking this is a nice little breather for somebody coming off of an elbow surgery as they get ready to pitch into October for the first time
Hopefully it doesn’t cost them too much in the mean time

It could be worse and it might well be. We don't know if he's going to pitch toward the end of the season in Washington and feel fine and ready for a wild card game.
And they'll definitely miss his presence in the Yankees series. It'll make it tougher for them to take 2 of 3 without him.
The bullpen, at least in the middle innings would be really tough with Whitlock and Houck occupying the pen.

It might be worse as you never know with injuries but judging by that Cora quote I have some confidence that he’ll be fine in time for the playoffs. It seems to me that they think he’d possibly be ready before 10 days but they simply opted to get the roster spot as it’s going to be longer than a couple days. That’s definitely open to interpretation though

Might be a good time for Seabold to return, replacing Whitlock for the week or so. He may make his case for 2022.

Good outings from ERod and Sale with at least one of them lasting six innings and maybe a bit more will also play big. Under the right circumstances, Perez could also be used for an extended stint. It might not be ideal but Houck could probably go two on Friday and two on Sunday. As for Whitlock, it is fingers crossed time.

Apparently re-building arm strength this coming off season will be critical for him. I don't think he's capable right now of making a case for 2022. That said from a Seabold fan plus Eck likes the hair.

Eligible to come back Wednesday or Thursday? He was removed from the game on 9/19.
