[checking in at 10:15 and seeing that it is the bottom of the 4th inning] Well the food is terrible but at least the portions are huge. I wonder how they can fix baseball? (That is sarcasm)

I can't wait for them to get to Atlanta when the game changes dramatically with the pitchers hitting. That is going to be so exciting. Two different set of rules is way past its time. Hey NL it aint the 19 the century any longer......

I can’t stand the Astros right now, but I don’t think that’s tainting my view that the announcers are basically rooting for Houston.

Does this top a bloody sock ? Thats an interesting comparison. Schilling pitched a full 7 innings (99 pitches) with a make shift tendon sheath. Morton managed to stay in the game and retire another 4 batters. In the end I tip my hat to both guys but would give Schilling a slight edge

Damn, why couldnt the Sox have seen this version of Framber Valdez in Game 5? The Braves are hammering him in the first inning. Last time it was 1 run in 8 innings. This time he's already given up at least 2 runs in the 1st inning. Well, for one thing he stopped touching his hair after every pitch like he did in Game 5 of the ALCS. Perhaps Cora was afraid to ask the umpires to check him given his own history.

Looks like this series will be tied. With the uncertainty looming in Game 4 and 5 for the Braves, they needed a strong effort from Max Fried. They did not get one.

Fried was actually solid - Gurriel's hit was on a tough pitch down, and the Astros also had a couple base hits on pitches in off the plate. I think he's probably back for game 5.

He's be on 3 days rest and then who would pitch Game 6? Anderson? He'd be on 3 days rest. Then if it went 7? The Braves only have two viable starters, Fried and Anderson. Everything else is patchwork, Chavez, Smyley, Wright, and Davidson. It makes more sense to pitch Fried with his full rest for Game 6. Otherwise I think they would have pulled him sooner. I think he was giving up hard contact the first couple of innings. He did well to settle down but the horse was out of the barn by then. What he did was save the bullpen which had to go long in Game 1 when Morton got injured. I could be wrong but I think Chavez starts Game 4 and Smyly starts Game 5, but both starts will probably be piggybacked by Wright and Davidson in either game. Then the Braves could come back with Fried in Game 6 and Anderson in Game 7 on full rest assuming the Braves can take at least one of their 3 games in Atlanta. Game 4 should be interesting. Probably a Greinke/Odorizzi/Javier game for Houston and Atlanta will have their patchwork pitching going on as well.

Bregman with a clean single in the ninth, so I guess it doesn’t matter. Braves win, up 2-1 gotta steal one of the next two and keep fried and Anderson for 6/7

Strangely, the Astros are literally incapable of hitting on the road. Funny that. Did you watch the same ALCS that I did? I'd say 23 runs in 3 Fenway games constitutes some good hitting. They also scored in double figures on their ALDS clincher against the White Sox in Chicago. It didn't do them any good in Game 3 at Atlanta, but I wouldnt be surprised to see them tee off the Braves patchwork pitching in Atlanta for Games 4 and 5.

I actually don’t think they would dare cheat. It’d be a catastrophe.

Hopefully the Astros tee off on the depleted Braves pitching in games 4 and 5 like the Red Sox teed off on the depleted Astros pitching in games 4 and 5.

Dusty baker got too cute with his lineup second time Yuli got the bat taken out of his hand in a key spot.
Home plate umpire is beyond atrocious as usual.

Shades of tori hunter on the papi GS in 2013 I think this one was way more catchable. He timed it all wrong and was SLOW to get there. The VERDUGOD makes that play in his sleep.

It was more catchable, but it was over his head and he got twisted around. I agree that an very good outfielder very likely gets to it, but it's a pretty great play if he does. Of course, it's also out of Alvarez's home park by like 50 feet.

Eh, I'm not sure they don't do the same thing with Maldonado up next. Losing Castro is a bigger loss than a lot of people probably realize, although it's not like he'd have hit there, of course.

(That is sarcasm) Electronic balls and strikes. It would surprise me if that didn't speed things up. For one thing you remove the human interaction element between pitchers and batters and the umpire. My guess is if a study were made it would find a lot of time is wasted due to various posturings as well as spoken interaction with the umpire. Do batters step out and wander around more when they think they have been jobbed? Do pitchers do the same thing? Just wandering around and shaking one's head can eat up a lot of time. All that gamesmanship and attempts at subtle influence is gone.
