I would like to see Scherzer in a Sox jersey, please. I'd like to see Scherzer in a Sox uniform, but think the Dodgers will bring him back or stay on the west coast - But what about a guy like Verlander? Coming off TJ, but the last full season he pitched he won the cy young and wont be a guy you give more than two years. I'd like them to look at some short-term, high upside guys to bring into the rotation and give Cora a lot of options. Wonder if the Astros offer him the qualifying offer... I'd pass on Verlander. I think he could be had for a 1 year deal but he's just too big a question mark and the Sox don't have enough flexibility yet underneath the luxury tax as it currently stands to risk it. I also think he probably get a QO because the Astros have a lot of money coming off the book and would probably be okay with him accepting it with the money they have coming off the books.

I’d be big in favor of Verlander on a 2-year contract if there is a reasonable price and/or evidence he’ll be ready to roll immediately next season. I feel pretty sure he can get back to being a very good starter.

I think if E-Rod leaves I'd like to bring in some upside guys and give Cora as many options as possible. Verlander was just a thought but there's some guys out there you could bring in on short term deals with some high upside - don't know what's going to happen with Whitlock or Houck next year too in regards to being starters or relievers.

Verlander is going to be 39 years old coming off Tommy John. It wouldn't surprise me if he beats the odds but I'm just saying I don't want the sox to bet on it.

I don’t understand why the cf wouldn’t just dive for the ball? Probably cost his team the game

Braves match Sox with back to back walk offs
As bad as the heredia play was that Seager play has to be made.

Wow. I wasn't sure the Braves would even manage to win 2 games against the Dodgers and instead they use some kamikaze baserunning to make it 2 for 2. Last year they took the first 2 games and were 3-1 before blowing the 2020 NLCS.
Maybe this year it'll be different?

Braves match Sox with back to back walk offs As bad as the heredia play was that Seager play has to be made. Incredibly great ball game. Defensive miscues are a part of baseball, so it's kind of cool that the last 2 Dogers runs and the final Braves run scored on them. Pedroia would have had that, and maybe with one eye shut.
Also cool that the crazy baserunner who steals the first of the two tying runs gets the walkoff single ... immediately after the egregious defensive butcher has his chance for redemption and grounds out meekly.

Sigh. I seem to be rooting for the Braves, very much to my dismay.

Have nothing against the Braves and wouldn't have a problem with them winning the World Series compared to the Dodgers or Astros - Not much that's unlikeable about them especially as a Sox fan.

Meh. I wouldn’t go to wrestling to see Oatmeal Man. Give me faces and heels, but spare me a team that seems… unhateable?

Nah, also the Braves are a much better matchup in terms of raw talent - I know some people see it different but I want the team we have the best chance of taking down for the ring if we get there...Obviously FOX wants the Dodgers matchup against either the Sox or Astros (probably the Astros) for the obvious built-in storylines and general appeal.

If the Astros beat the Sox I'd prefer LA wins and then gets revenge on the Astros for 2017. I think the Dodgers have the pitching that can contain Houston and LA would also have home field advantage. But if the Sox prevail over Houston I'd rather see Atlanta win (be careful what I wish for...) because the Sox would get home field advantage which also means one extra game of JDM and Schwarber in the lineup together. The Braves lineup can be pitched to. They don't have Acunas and they do have some serious weak spots in the order. Will Smith is hardly an ironclad closer and they really don't have a #4 starter either. Fried is really tough and Riley is very hot right now. The Braves and Sox are more evenly matched. The Sox should have won 88 but overachieved to win 92 while the Braves should have won 94 but underachieved to wind up at 88. Split the difference either way and they're pretty close. I'd hate to see the Sox have to run into that Dodgers pitching.

Yes, we can't forget how important an extra game would be at home given our situation with JD and Schwarber (and just the defense in general). That's enough of a reason to root for the Braves in the other series.

No matter which teams are in the playoffs, something has got to give. You've got the Astros and Red Sox who can score 70 runs in a 7 game series against the Braves or Dodgers who can give up 7 runs in a 7 game series.
I don't remember this much offense in the playoffs for the Red Sox. I bet they have at least 7 guys with an OPS over .800 without looking.
