Unmentioned on air: four Sox pitchers (including the last two guys in the pen) held the Astros hitless over the last 5 innings.

Hopefully that catch gets Renfroe going! I was thinking the same thing. Imagine this offence with him mashing too!

Let it not go underappreciated that the Red Sox played probably the best defense they have played all season. Just perfect from everyone, that double clutch by Devers was incredible.

We essentially got through today without touching our pen, getting ERod through the 4th and then getting the 5th and 6th might be end up being a huge difference in this series.
We were worried about whether our pen could cover back-to-back-to-back nights but now we just need to manage back-to-back.
Any word on the game 4 starter? Pivetta?

I would love an opener for Pivetta, but I think it’s probably going to be Pivetta straight up.

One game at a time, friends. Tonight was memorable - it was awesome. We start 0-0 tomorrow - we'll see how it goes. Fun stuff - off to bed! Catch you tomorrow night.

Still don’t understand the infatuation with Santana. I think Cora is married to his cousin.

The most ironic part about this blowout - Houston had a higher xBA than we did. Hopefully that xBA trend doesn't persist through the week.
They had a bunch of loud outs, in the 6th and 9th innings especially. Alvarez had an 89% xBA on his 9th inning lineout.

He will have 9 days of rest at that point. He’s due.

Grienke pitching tomorrow - officially I think he’s only stretched out to about 40 pitches? I think 3 innings would be about the most they can expect from him? I’m not sure how their bullpen will react to so much work every night. They are getting WORKED.

Hats off to Erod for the incredibly rare QS tonight. He did a great job of eating innings and not giving them too much hope.

Pivetta confirmed starting tomorrow. Wonder what the bullpen plan looks like behind him.

Don't think FS1 will be doing the postgame on Jersey street tomorrow. This crowd looks as crazy as I've seen any outside Fenway in a while (and I was there when they clinched the WS in '18!)

Pivetta confirmed starting tomorrow. Wonder what the bullpen plan looks like behind him. Has to be a Houck day if it’s a close game. Ottavino warmed today, have to think he’s in there early-mid game as well. Here’s where you really miss Richards. 3 game days in a row and only one long relief option you can really trust. But if a win is in reach, you go all out for it and don’t worry about tomorrow.

Again, we have them right where want them. Take game 2 and come back to Boston with momentum and home field advantage. It's brilliant and it worked against the Rays, it'll work against the Asstrolls. As planned and the Asstrolls pitching staff is pretty much blown out. Following the game plan again and their pitching staff got no breaks again. Win tomorrow and the Sox will be in a position to close it out at home.

We were worried about whether our pen could cover back-to-back-to-back nights but now we just need to manage back-to-back. Any word on the game 4 starter? Pivetta? The list of pitchers who didn't pitch tonight is as follows:
Sale (AC already implied he would start Game 5) Pivetta (have to think he's starting Game 4) Ottavino (got up in the 4th inning tonight but didn't come in)
Houck Whitlock Brasier Darwinzon Taylor Eovaldi (likely held back for Game 6 but could he throw an inning or two in Game 4 or 5?)
Gotta like how ready the pitching staff is lined up going forward. Seems like one of Houck or Whitlock could held back for Wednesday to back up Sale, depending on how long Pivetta can go. Seems like the only guy off limits for tomorrow will be E-Rod, as Robles, Perez, and Sawamura threw 9, 12, and 10 pitches, respectively (I guess I would be surprised to see Perez again).

You just knew in the top of the 2nd when ERod struck out the side, the 10th man would bring a blowout.

Both to give him some extra rest, and to pair him with Sale again. My guess if they can get 4 from Pivetta would be Ottavino, Brasier, Whitlock, Taylor and Robles for one each.
