two more words...Dave Dombrowski. He DOES deserve more credit than he gets. I’m a big DD fan. He built the best team in franchise history. I know the Sale extension hurt, but it could still be fine in the long-run. There are worse contracts out there.

Has to be a Houck day if it’s a close game. Ottavino warmed today, have to think he’s in there early-mid game as well. Here’s where you really miss Richards. 3 game days in a row and only one long relief option you can really trust. But if a win is in reach, you go all out for it and don’t worry about tomorrow. That's sort of what I'm curious about, if they might want to save Houck for game 5. Both to give him some extra rest, and to pair him with Sale again. My guess if they can get 4 from Pivetta would be Ottavino, Brasier, Whitlock, Taylor and Robles for one each. I think of it like this. If they try to squeeze one out with that cast and lose by 1 or 2, then the next day they get the doors blown off of them, then you’re down 3-2 and haven’t gotten any meaningful use out of Houck in 3 games. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. IMO you pull out any stop you have to in game 4, and let the chips fall where they may for game 5.

This has been a wild amount of fun so far. Have to keep knocking on wood, and pinching myself to remind myself this is not a dream.
On to tomorrow. Have to keep the pedal to the metal here, I’m already getting nervous haha.
But you have to feel good about the bats, the defense, Eduardo, and the fact our bullpen is well rested and ready to go, and we are making them use a ton of bullets and getting a lot of looks at them. I am carefully confident. Just trying to take the advice of Chris and Ian and just enjoy it and not get too far ahead of myself but boy the Sox are making that awful hard. Good night all!

Don’t get me started on his drafts, especially pitchers. Dombrowski ran out of trade chips because the 2012-2014 drafts were awful (other than Kopech).

Oh also I think it’s kind of insane Baker used Stanek at the end. Stanek strikes me as one of the better arms out of their pen and I don’t get using him then at all. Only wasting more bullets and allowing us more looks.

In hindsight, he didn’t even give up much for Sale. Moncada is a nice player, but hardly the monster that was advertised. His worst trade was giving up Travis Shaw for nothing(basically). I think we can live with that one. I don’t even blame DD for the Price contract. Ownership left him with no choice after screwing up so badly with Lester. Cherington got off to a great start, too, btw. Signing the likes of Gomes, Napoli, Victorino and Koji were all great moves for that incredible 2013 team. He just lost his way with the deals for Rusney, Hanley & Panda(among others). He ran out of steam quickly.

Christian Arroyo is a hell of a guy to have in the #9 slot. We all knew that he could play as long as he was healthy, and he’s proving just that again. And this play the other night might be the best defensive play the Sox have made all year. Just ridiculous:

What a fantastic game. Love seeing them click on all cylinders from defense to pitching to a red hot offense and they even stole a base.
They set the tone, blew the doors open, and kept hammering away. Hope they can keep it up. Hope they come out doing the same thing tomorrow.
I also appreciate Cora telling E-Rod to cut out the bush league antics.
I love that they didn't have to use their high leverage relievers.
I was thinking about this and the only regular in the lineup who hasn't homered in the postseason is 31 HR guy Hunter Renfroe. And he still has contributed, today with 2 walks, a stolen base, and an excellent catch to end the game.
Hope they have two more games like that left in the ALCS. Keep on trucking.

I loved seeing E-Rod taunt Correa and I loved Cora yelling at him (then showing him love) and I loved Correa’s answer when asked about it
Getting in the good graces of his future teammates, smart man to get a head start on that

The most ironic part about this blowout - Houston had a higher xBA than we did. Hopefully that xBA trend doesn't persist through the week. They had a bunch of loud outs, in the 6th and 9th innings especially. Alvarez had an 89% xBA on his 9th inning lineout. This is shouting back to our conversation about E-Eod and the reasons karma might be skill.
The Astros had 5 hard-hit batted balls with xBA > .500. One was Tucker's homer, and they went 1/4 on the others.
Siri's lineout to center in the 3rd was 98.6, .600. But when you hit that that ball to straightaway CF occupied by a GG-caliber fielder, it's an out. The pitcher has influence on batted ball direction, so there's a decent amount of skill involved here.
Alvarez's single off the wall in the 4th was legit, if you ignore the crazy outlier inning E-Rod had after waiting 36 minutes.
In the 6th Correa smoked a 107.3, .540 grounder ... directly at Arroyo, who, like Kiké on Siri, made a nice play.
And the Alvarez shot was directly at a fielder in a shift.
Sure, there's some luck when all three of the guys who stroke a playable expected hard hit do so directly at one of the spots where you placed a fielder after extensive, optimizing analysis. But that's in the dictionary under "luck"" as defined by Branch Rickey: "the residue of design."

Pivetta confirmed starting tomorrow. Wonder what the bullpen plan looks like behind him. Pivetta has pretty bad home/away splits...let's hope his alter ego "pumped-playoff-Pivetta" takes care of business

Can you tell us one more time how much you dislike Bobby D? Just for those in the back, they probably haven't seen it. I actually like him as a player but he has some things to work out and should not be starting playoff games. Im fine with them working him in as a pinch hitter or defensive replacement. Please.... he was one of the best hitters in all of baseball for the month of August. I am reading thru last nights posts and anything negative is simply out of line.

Unmentioned on air: four Sox pitchers (including the last two guys in the pen) held the Astros hitless over the last 5 innings. And they were one bad pitch away from a shutout.

Guys, I'm not sure my nerves can take 3 to 11 more games of this! I like this team a lot, and we are in a great position, but the games are long and intense. Might have to sit out one or two so I'm ready for the WS should we be so blessed again.
So excited for E-Rod and SOOOO glad he regained form after the hard hits and squeezed out a few more innings. Love when he has it rolling like that. He was painting the corners but not nibbling like he does when he's struggling. Ump grades aren't up but I think he benefited from/exploited a wider zone, but he was cooking with high heat as well.

Devers was heads and shoulders above Margot, it was between Devers and Moncoda. And DD said no to Devers and yes to Moncada, which obviously worked out great also.
