Seems like a pretty modest deal for how good he was last year. I read that he lives in Georgia, so that might have influenced the deal. Probably took a discount to stay close to home, like Charlie Morton. I've been saying this since before the lockout. Heard him interviewed and he couldn't stop talking about his wife's new business in Atlanta and how his priorities v/v baseball vs. home life have really changed since covid hit. If there had been a way to bet on him going to the Braves, I would have a little extra cake right now.

The Rockies confuse me. If someone can explain their organizational philosophy that would be great. Their philosophy seems to sign a big contract, or two, every few years and then spend the years that follow trying to figure out a way to move that big contract off the books. Rinse. Lather. Repeat. That NTC will be waived within 4-5 years to get him moved.

He's been awful, rest of lineup is solid and they'll have someone better to put in if he doesn't have a huge rebound but I'd argue the 2004 sox had just as good a lineup if not better.

Bellinger is a confusing case. I think he’s just dealt with a lot of injuries over the last couple years that have hampered his production. He was MVP at age 23 and has been mostly lost since. If he’s healthy(big “if”), I could easily see him rebounding. You might be right about the 2004 Red Sox, btw. The Yankees were absolutely loaded then, too. The best lineup I ever saw might have been the Indians of the mid-90’s, though.

The 1999 Indians lineup scored over 1000 runs (and had their season ended by an ailing Pedro Martinez in Game 5 of the ALDS when he pitched 6 no-hit innings in relief). The 1950 Red Sox batted over .300 as a team (no DH back then) and scored over 1000 runs. The 1953 Dodgers featured a lineup of Campanella, Hodges, Robinson, Reese, Furillo, and Snider. I'd say that Dodgers lineup was probably better than the current Dodgers lineup that is pretty damn good.

So here's a person I've never heard of getting a $25 million baseball contract:
(Also, he has a career 4.77 ERA and hasn't pitched since 2017?)
(Also, it took 3 player options to get this done??)
(Also, what the hell? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) )

He was rumored to the Sox at some point. Well, we can’t expect them to get every superstar.

Its a sad state of affairs when signing this guy would have been the biggest move the Sox have made in the offseason for the 2022 roster. Maybe Diekman...who knows. Don't you just love a bargin? The Sox sure do. The other DD, Dan Duquette would be proud.

The one takeaway from these signings is to completely trash the MLB argument that clubs are in dire poverty. Those that have fungible assets, strip-mine to insure profitability if they're on the margin. Those with excess cash to burn, they burn it.

Jeez, who needs a decent 2b like Villar when you have Bobby Dalbec ready for duty?

Nick Martinez was absurd in the NPB last year and also starred on the Olympic team. 4/$25M seems like a pretty reasonable risk given the chance he's a dude now, and the downside is that he reverts to being like a #5/swingman type again.

Dombrowski was in charge in Detroit when Castellanos was drafted. I am not surprised by his interest

That Phillies team will look like they'll hit, but they won't be able to catch a ball to save their lives.

Dombrowski ruining the future of the Phillies without even much of a chance of winning.
