I really thought we would have started a Brandon Walter thread last year but it appears to be nonexistent.
Anyways, if this is "ramping up," I'm excited to see what "ramped up" looks like:

Is that a whiffle ball he's throwing?

Where's Tommy Heinsohn when you need him?

Anyways, if this is "ramping up," I'm excited to see what "ramped up" looks like: Certainly the stuff looks good to me, but did anyone else notice a clear difference in delivery between his fastball and breaking ball(s)? Is that simply due to him warming up and not taking it too seriously or is that something he does in games as well?

Bigger test coming in AA. Hope he passes it like he's done the others.

Where's Tommy Heinsohn when you need him? Heinsohn was the greatest on C's broadcasts. Can remember him always saying J-O-E K-L-E-I-N really slow, drawn out and deep voiced whenever Joe would do something Heinsohn liked while with the team.

That changeup looks like a screwball. He should have no problem with RHB. He's got some armside run on his fastball too.
If I had to guess, it looks like he has a high spin rates. The only strange thing to see was the wild velocity fluctuations.

I know it's a short video but that stuff looks intriguing. Sox may have something with him. Nice list of pitching prospects the sox are accumulating.

Definitely worth a read. Crazy how much spin is on his changeup.

Definitely worth a read. Crazy how much spin is on his changeup. Thanks for the recommendation. This starts to answer the questions about why his walk rate has been driven down and his K rate way up. Bloom seems to have brought a bit to the table, including a nuanced look at how pitchers get evaluated. Good stuff.

That was a good read for sure. Barnes said they told him the same thing about his stuff being good enough to just attack rather than trying to paint the corners and getting into trouble. That is what he attributed to his success early last year also. Good to see Bloom bringing more than just managing the roster to the table and it seems like it should pay dividends in getting the staffs walk rate down. Plus it gives guys confidence to throw their pitches and attack.
I also saw on the homepage that Walter struck out Yorke, Mayer and Jordan back to back earlier in camp,

Where's Tommy Heinsohn when you need him? Brandon Walter would remind him of Pedro Martinez.

This guy is absolutely nasty. Great under the radar pick who will be at least a 3-4 at the MLB level in my opinion.

Pretty amazing to think that at this point last year he was an afterthought (at least to us) in the Salem bullpen.

Hard to imagine him getting any major league starts this year, there' just too many guys ahead of him on the depth chart. Would not be that surprising if they hustled to get him into a playoff bullpen, though.

Desperately trying not to type "Let's go, Brandon" just to see the ratio. Whew. Glad I didn't do that. But, yeah, that is some nasty breaking stuff.

Pretty amazing to think that at this point last year he was an afterthought (at least to us) in the Salem bullpen. Learned a lesson when I only half-paid attention to his 1 or 2 inning relief outing at one of 2 games I got to attend live last year. Admittedly didn't help that none of the scouts I was near had their guns out, probably because they'd seen him earlier in the series. (And actually, technically at this point last year he was in spring training!)

The only strange thing to see was the wild velocity fluctuations. Maybe 2- and 4- seam? Or a cutter? I agree about the change, the arm side break is wild, especially from that vantage point.
