Don't we need a different colored thread on days when Ciriaco takes a walk?

Clutch hitting isn't in our vocabulary.

Clutch hitting isn't in our vocabulary. That right there is why Ortiz is still so valuable to this team. Tiny sample size obviously, but Lackey's and Lester's stuff have looked lightyears better in spring training and their first starts.

Granted this is a Bautista/Lowrie -less lineup, but Lackey is looking solid in the box score so far. Whats the report from those watching? Whats his FB/curve looking like?

Actually, pitching as well if not better than the boxscore. Locating fastball 92-93. Hit 94 a couple of times. Really good bite on his curveball. Which he didn't have with the elbow troubles.

Clutch hitting isn't in our vocabulary. If BABIP is a random variable, and just about all the evidence suggests that it is, so is "clutch hitting" by definition. The idea is always the same one: get enough people on base and good things will happen when the hits do fall for you.

How does a stiff like Happ strike out the side?

How does a stiff like Happ strike out the side? Happ is throwing 90-94 and hitting the outside corner on every fastball. Unreal command today. Mixing in a change-up which is keeping our righties totally off balance.

Soft tossing lefties and the Red Sox....Not a good mix. Never let Hernandez go....he could come back to bite them.

That outside edge to right handers has been generous for Happ, haven't noticed if Lackey has gotten it as well. Good on Happ for seeing that he's getting it and attacking it.

Lackey hangs a curve to Arrenciba and we're down 2-0. Happ looks like Cole Hamels today. Our only hit thru 5 was a double by Ellsbury to leadoff the game. Swung real late and just went down 3b line.

Honestly, if there's one thing that drives me absolutely crazy, it's the "ZOMG WE CAN'T HIT WITH RUNNERS ON" stuff. It's not a failing of the team, it's a function of the game of baseball. All teams strand a ton their baserunners. BETTER offensive teams actually strand MORE runners because A) they've got more on in the first place and B) the game itself is structured in such a way that it's impossible to avoid stranding a lot of them.

Lackey just hurt his arm. Ugh.. Looks like bicep. Coming off mound. Awful.

Looks like Lackey just blew out his arm in the middle of a pretty great first outing.
Also, classy Blue Jays fans continue the anti-Farrell chants even with an injured pitcher on the mound.

Is there a stupider collection of fans on the planet than Blue Jays fans? Lackey slumps over in pain after clearly injuring himself, and these idiots spend the next 10 seconds booing. Freakin' morons.
If there's any silver lining, the injury doesn't look elbow-related. But that doesn't mean much.

Freakin' morons. It's like they're desperate for something to be angry about. Booing John Farrell? Why the hell do they even care? They didn't like him when he was there, but then they're also angry he left, even though that makes no sense, I guess? Seriously, someone explain it to me.

As I said before, I don't think Aceves has the ability to pitch well anymore. Just gave up a 3 run homer to Colby Rasmus. His second homer in two outings. I want him out of Boston. Not just because of his recent track record, but he was terrible at the end of last year and has a bad attitude in the clubhouse.

Hate it for Lackey. Any guesses wat it could be? Is it a good sign its not the elbow? I'd rather Webster get a chance than watch Aceves.

I'm sure Aceves will get a start or two? Do we go with Allen Webster if he struggles?

Aceves threw 88 MPH meatballs to Lind to start the inning. I want him gone so bad.

This. I hate fans using the term clutch in every sport. At least in baseball manypeople have realized it does not exist. I trying explaining that clutch does not exist to a basketball or football fand and I start to feel like John Scopes at a parent teacher conference.

Aceves is just not a talented pitcher. I am fine with him playing the mop up role or coming in the 14th inning, but I don't want him in close games ever.
