That soft-tossing Alexander kid on the Tigers did pretty well against the Sox yesterday, topping out around 90 and spotting his pitches. Tired in the sixth in his first start of the season and left with a one-run lead and a guy on first (who wound up scoring). I think teams are starting to give longer looks to guys who can't throw 98 but command the ball, particularly with the stickm ban making 4-seamers at the top of the zone more difficult to control.
I think Groome will be 93, t95 by midseason though.

That’s so weird. That’s what he’s doing in real life, too.

Re: Groome. You can’t rack up punch outs when the other team is swinging early and often. He threw 49 pitch’s and they swing at 23 of them. In his final inning he get 3 outs on 5 pitches with Harrisburg’s hitters putting the first pitch they saw in play twice. It’s just one start after a short ST, let’s see where he’s at after 5 or 6 starts.

I would have a migraine too if I were striking out 50% of the time

Promote Kavadas and Binelas I’ve seen enough
Also, I’m not sure how much Hamilton’s profile can change or how legit his start is, and I know he’s 24 already, but wow this Renfroe return is looking good.

Binelas has no business being in A Ball and I not talking about the HRs nor the avg, it’s the approach, it’s too advanced for the league lol

Matthew Lugo might be the hottest hitter in the whole organization right now.

I don't want to put the turd in the punchbowl but Greenville's opponent, Asheville, appears to have very bad pitching thus far. They've already used two position players to pitch in their first four games and tonight marks the fourth time in five games they've surrendered 9+ runs. They haven't flashed a whole lot of leather as a team either (11 E in 4.5 games).
EDIT: It appears that the Drive will be playing 9 of the other 11 teams in the Sally League during the season, so it should be easier to evaluate their performance than last year.

Clever play by Mayer and Salem gets lucky as Mayer fields a grounder while too deep in the hole with a man on second. Flips to third, Blaze Jordan gives the guy trying to take third a light push off the bag and out of the inning. Probably shouldn't have gotten away with it, but Mayer is a smooth fielder and thinks the game well. Has that rare defensive read and react quality, which is especially nice to see in a shortstop. The Fayetteville announcers were talking about how they heard folks comping him to Chipper Jones earlier.
