Down to a 95% win expectancy - better use our best reliever!

If he guarantees a victory twice a week, I'll take it.

I think if Hill does on Monday what he did in his first start and keeps the Sox in the game, Whitlock will appear in the 6th again and try to finish it out. If Hill leaves the game down 3+ runs (like it looked like he might in the first start), I think they wait to use Whitlock in the next game and hope for a lead from Eovaldi. If that doesn't happen, they wait for Pivetta's start and so on. If they get a bunch of consecutive crappy starts without enough offense to stay in the game, I think he'd pitch anyway on the 4th or 5th day.

Do you see how important it is to get Sale back because Houck and Whitlock in the bullpen would be lethal.

I don’t understand the infatuation with bulk relievers.
Houck and Whitlock should both be starters. Whitlock is on an innings leash so they are going to have to ramp his innings up over time. That’s the only reason it makes sense that he in the role that he is right now.
Hill and Wacha are only there to chew up innings the first few months. If they pitch better than expected they’re trade bait to make room for the guys we control for several years. Or they’re the ones who end up in the bulk relief role.

Glad the have the A team out there today I can not image Arauz and Shaw lasting on the MLB roster more than a couple months at most. Once Casas has gotten a couple months of AAA, he should be ready for the MLB. I wonder whether Sanchez or Fitzgerald would replace Arauz when the time comes.

That ratio will change in about 2 more weeks.

Hard to overstate how much it would be worth to Chaim's supporters engaged in message board debates if JBJ puts up more WAR than Renfroe this year FWIW Renfroe - OPS .567 JBJ - OPS .560 Betts - OPS .563 Verdugo - OPS 1.042 Yes, Small Sample Size (OBVIOUSLY)

Let the record reflect that JBJ hit a bomb even if it was an out. He looks pretty good to me. He looks like his normal self, not a .163 hitter like last year. The Renfroe JBJ debate will continue on this board though lol It’s funny. He’s hitting .190 this year and everyone is acting like he’s a Triple Crown threat. He shouldn’t be playing every day, and he’s going to get badly exposed if he keeps getting this much playing time. Cora needs to pick his spots with JBJ.

His defense is amazing and most of us real fans love him as a person and what he’s done for us in the past and we just want to see him do well. Your approach as a pitcher is completely different when you see the type of defensive effort that we had today. You can pitch to weak contact and not try to strike everyone out. You can pitch inside to lefties knowing if they pull the ball you got a gold glover in RF. There’s more to baseball then a batting AVG.

They don't make as much sense if your rotation is in shambles. In that case, yes, barring a medical reason / innings limit they should probably be starting (and in that case, good thing we were infatuated with them or we'd have no one to start!). They are clearly superior to SIRPs when used in the pen, though. They can reset the bullpen, eat more innings over a season from the same roster spot, and spot start in a pinch. It takes pressure off the rotation having to go deep into games, which should help for SP longevity and which gives the manager flexibility. Plus, for a SIRP, even if they have their good stuff, they're probably coming out of the game after the inning. For a MIRP, if they have their good stuff, now they can go a few innings and you just saved yourself a few SIRPs worth of "will they be good today?" trial and error. The only downside of guys like this is that they should cost more because they are more valuable. I'll take as many as I can get, though.

I just think he might get the dreaded “Marwin Syndrome” with JBJ and think he’s an everyday player at this stage. He’s not. He has a great glove while being one of the worst hitters in the league. He’s useful. But not 400AB’s useful.
